BATTLING THE BOILERMAKERS
Purdue's two Big Ten wins have come against Illinois and Maryland. Last weekend, the Boilermakers defeated the Terrapins, 1-0, before falling to No. 16 Penn State on Sunday, 1-0. Non-conference victories for Purdue came against Marshall and Cincinnati. Purdue has netted 12 goals on the year by seven different players. Andrea Petrina and Hannah Leinert lead the team in points with seven as each have registered two goals and three assists. In goal, Erika Yohn and Jordan Ginther have split time with Ginther seeing the most minutes. She has 47 saves on the year with a 1.98 goals against average.
IU trails in the all-time series, 4-13-3, with Purdue coming away with a 2-0 victory in Bloomington last season. However, the Hoosiers have won three of the last four matchups. Under Coach Berbary, the Hoosiers are undefeated in West Lafayette. IU has won both meetings against Purdue at Folk Field, in addition to winning both games of last year's Boilermaker Challenge Cup against Baylor and Missouri.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers earned their first complete conference weekend since 2013 last week, defeating Ohio State, 3-2, and Maryland, 1-0. IU was the only team in the conference to go 2-0 last week. Dating back to the Oct. 6 draw against defending national champion Penn State, the Hoosiers have earned at least one point in four straight contests for the first time since 2009.
On Thursday, the Hoosiers picked up their first win against Ohio State since 2010 and the first in Columbus since 2002. Three freshmen scored in the win - Chandra Davidson, Allison Jorden and Sydney Kilgore.
Sunday saw Indiana grind out a 1-0 win against Maryland. Redshirt Marissa Borschke scored the game-winner for the Hoosiers in the 34th minute while freshman goalkeeper Sarah L'Hommedieu earned three saves in her fourth shutout of the season.
SPREADING THE WEALTH
• The Hoosiers have scored 21 goals on the season, the most for the program since the 2013 squad scored 43.
• Following Davidson's first career goal against the Buckeyes, IU has now seen goals from 12 different Hoosiers, the biggest distribution since the 2013 team also had goals from 12 different players.
• Redshirt sophomore Mykayla Brown leads the way with four goals, while Borschke, Kilgore and sophomores Cassidy Blacha and Caroline Dreher each have a pair of scores.
• Five Hoosiers have netted their first career goals this year - Dreher (Aug. 26 vs. Butler), junior Kylie Kirk (Sept. 25 vs. Wisconsin), freshman Allison Jorden (Sept. 25 vs. Wisconsin), Kilgore (Oct. 9 vs. Rutgers) and Davidson (Oct. 13 at Ohio State).
• Including assists, 16 different Hoosiers have at least one point, the highest since 16 players also earned at least one point in 2007.
• The Hoosiers have scored at least three goals in four games (Aug. 28 vs. Northern Colorado, Sept. 11 vs. JMU, Sept. 25 vs. Wisconsin and Oct. 13 vs. Ohio State), the most since the 2013 squad did so seven times.
GREAT SCOTT
Freshman Meghan Scott earned an assist in both games over the weekend, bringing her total to a team-leading five, which is tied for fourth in the Big Ten. Additionally, Scott has three assists in Big Ten play alone, tied for sixth-most in a single season at Indiana.
WHAT WOULD L'HOMMEDIEU?
L'Hommedieu picked up seven more saves over the weekend, bringing her total to 79 on the year, the most in the conference. In addition, the Hudson, Ohio native is tied for 45th in the country in total saves. Amongst freshmen, L'Hommedieu has the fifth-most in the nation. Her 79 saves is currently ninth in a single season at IU and is the second-most ever for an Indiana freshman, trailing Merit Elzey who registered 110 in 1994.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Hoosiers close out the regular season on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when they host Michigan for Senior Night. IU will honor Borschke, Veronica Ellis and Ari Kowalski with a special pre-game ceremony.
