Both Varsity 8 Boats Capture Wins To Open Spring

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Hoosiers opened their spring season Sunday on Lake Lemon, hosting Iowa and No. 15 Louisville for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
The First Varsity 8 boat for the Hoosiers started out the day with an impressive performance, as they finished first with a time of 6:42.6, which was 3.2 seconds ahead of Iowa and 8.9 seconds ahead of Louisville.
The Hoosiers' Second Varsity 8 boat also provided a strong performance as they came away with the win, recording a time of 6:56.2. Iowa followed 2.3 seconds behind the Hoosiers, followed by Louisville.
Iowa won the First Varsity 4 race with a time of 7:38.4 while Louisville and Indiana were neck-and-neck to the line with the Cardinals edging IU by a half second.
In the next race, the Second Varsity 4 boat finished second for the Hoosiers with a time of 7:51.3.
Indiana's First Novice 8 and Second Novice 8 teams both got their first taste of the competition experience. The Hoosiers' First Novice 8 boat finished third (7:31.0) in their heat, while Second Novice 8 boat came in second behind Iowa.
Indiana finished third in the Third Varsity 8 race with a time of 8:32.7.
The next regatta on the IU schedule is the Big Ten Double Dual, where they will compete against Minnesota and Wisconsin. The regatta will take place in Iowa City, Iowa on April 9. Fans can listen to all of the IU races in Iowa City for FREE by clicking here.
