Each of IU's first three batters picked up multi RBI games, while seven of nine in the starting lineup picked up at least one RBI. The heart of IU's lineup each went deep, with the three, four and five slots combining for six RBI. Sophomore Luke Miller lead the way with three RBI off a home run and double, while senior Logan Sowers had two RBI off a home run. Junior Matt Lloyd tagged his ninth home run of the season and also doubled twice. Senior Tony Butler tallied two RBI and scored twice, while senior Craig Dedelow notched two hits and two RBI.
Junior Laren Eustace had a perfect four-for-four day at the plate and drove in a run. Sophomore Ryan Fineman also picked up an RBI as part of a two-hit day. Freshman Matt Gorski also collected two hits in the effort.
Junior Brian Hobbie tossed three innings and mixed seven hits, four runs and five strikeouts. Freshman Cal Krueger (1-1) followed with a four-inning relief appearance that included one run and three hits en route to his first collegiate win. Junior Kade Kryzsko and Lloyd combined for a 1-2-3 ninth inning, with Lloyd picking up his fourth save.
After trading 1-2-3 frames in the first, Indiana jumped up 2-0 in the top of the second. Lloyd led off with a double to left field before Sowers' blast to left field gave Indiana a brief 2-0 lead. Michigan responded in the bottom half of the second with two runs of its own before Hobbie picked up two-straight swinging strikeouts to strand two runners.
Miller stroked IU's second home run with one away in the third off of Ryan Nutof's first offering, pushing the Hoosiers' lead to 3-2. Lloyd made it back-to-back shots with a solo shot to right-center, putting IU back up by two, 4-2.
IU capitalized off a four-pitch walk to freshman Jeremy Houston in the fifth and spun it for three runs. Eustace doubled down the right field line to push Houston to third, while Bulter's groundout scored Houston and put the Hoosiers up 5-2. Dedelow then cleared the base paths with a two-RBI double to right field, which upped IU's lead to 7-2.
Krueger came into the game in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded and no outs. The freshman was able to trade three-straight outs for two runs, making it a 7-4 ballgame.
IU tacked on two runs in the fifth, pushing its lead to seven runs, 11-4. Gorski led off with a single and came around to score on Fineman's RBI double down the left field line. Following a pitching change, Eustace tagged a double of his own off the left field wall, which brought home Fineman. From there, Miller joined in with a double to center field, which scored Eustace and Butler, who was plunked.
Michigan manufactured a run in the seventh inning, trimming its deficit to 11-5.
Butler picked up his second RBI of the game in the eighth inning off a sacrifice fly that scored Fineman, who reached on an error and advanced on a wild pitch.
Michigan came back for four runs in the eighth off a grand slam to trim its deficit to 12-9.
Indiana looks to sweep the series tomorrow at noon.
