PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Day two from Philadelphia was a tremendously successful day, as all three events achieved times inside the top 10 in the school's record book, including a school relay record. Down in Austin, the hammer throwers were in action at the Longhorn Invitational.
A second school record fell at the Penn Relays. The women's 4x1,500m relay team finished fourth with a time of 17:39.82, eclipsing the previous record by nearly 10 seconds. In a highly strategic race, Corrine Cominator stuck with the lead pack through the first leg, clocking in with a time of 4:33.04. Cominator gave way to Brenna Calder, who registered a split of 4:20.02. Haley Harris was the third carry, splitting 4:28.04. Finally, the Hoosiers turned to All-American Katherine Receveur to bring it home. Her split of 4:17.10 was the third fastest split in the competition.
The Hoosiers nabbed second place in the men's distance medley relay (DMR). Joe Murphy was the lead-off leg for IU, his split in the 1,200m was 2:57.22, the fastest time in the field. Murphy handed the baton to Adam Wallace, his 400m split was 48.15. Jordan Huntoon was the 800m runner, carrying the baton two laps around the track in 1:47.22. Kyle Mau was responsible for the anchor leg, as he did in the NCAA Championships. His mile split was 4:00.02. The team's final time of 9:33.10 is the fifth best DMR time in program history.
William Session won the third heat of the 110m hurdles, securing a spot in tomorrow afternoon's final. The freshman has come on strong towards the end of the season, and today was no different. His time of 14.04 is the 10th quickest time in school history and is the fourth seeded time heading into the finals tomorrow.
From the Longhorn Invitational, Andrew Miller took sixth in the hammer throw. After a foul on the first throw, his second throw was good enough to advance him into the finals. His final throw of the day was his best, traveling 60.55m (198-8). On the women's side, Nakel McClinton also finished sixth in the hammer throw. Her best throw of the evening came on her third attempt as she hit a mark of 59.45m (195-8).
Day three from the Penn Relays will begin tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. with the men's 4xMile relay. The Longhorn Invitational will get started at 11:30 a.m. EST with the men's triple jump. The third meet with Hoosier representation, the RedHawk Invitational, will start at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow afternoon with the 110m hurdles.
