The Hoosiers surged for 16 hits and had three players boast multi-RBI performances. Senior Craig Dedelow drove in a game-high four runs and finished the day with three hits, including his 12th home run of the season. Sophomore Matt Lloyd chipped in three RBI and walked twice, while senior Tony Butler also walked twice to go along with two RBI. Junior Logan Sowers and freshman Jake Matheny each provided three hits, while Matheny and freshman Jeremy Houston chipped in an RBI apiece.
Sophomore Pauly Milto turned in a quality start, going six innings allowing no runs on three hits while striking out five batters, as he improved to 4-3 on the season with the win. Freshman Cameron Beauchamp also made a quality appearance out of the bullpen, tossing a perfect seventh inning.
Indiana jumped ahead quickly in the first inning off Dedelow's three-run shot to left field. Senior Alex Krupa took the first pitch he saw back up the middle and stole second before Lloyd drew his first walk of the day to set up Dedelow for a two-out shot to give the Hoosiers a 3-0 lead.
The Hoosiers ran away with it following eight runs split between the third, fourth and fifth innings. Dedelow started things with a base-hit to right to score sophomore Luke Miller, who doubled, to make it a 4-0 game.
IU's three-run fourth started with a one-out single by Matheny. Then with two outs, Krupa walked, Butler walked, and Lloyd connected on a bases clearing three-run double to extend the lead to 7-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Sowers got things started for the Hoosiers with a one-out double to center field. A single through the left side by senior Austin Cangelosi gave runners on the corners for Matheny, who singled home Sowers to make it an 8-0 score. Following a Xavier pitching change, an RBI single by Houston and a two-run double by Butler capped off the 11 runs for Indiana.
Xavier chipped away with a five-run eighth and two-run ninth to cut into the lead to make it 11-7. Junior Kade Kryzsko came in to record the final out to seal the IU victory.
Indiana next heads to No. 4 Kentucky on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
