GAME NOTES: Indiana vs. #2 Ohio State

SETTING THE SCENE
• Indiana kicks off its 133rd season of football and its 58th year at Memorial Stadium.
• ESPN's College GameDay Built by The Home Depot heads to Bloomington for the first time live from 6-8 p.m.
• Rece Davis will host and be joined by Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and David Pollack.
• A 2010 IU Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Corso coached the Hoosiers from 1973-82 and led the program to its first bowl victory, 38-37, over No. 9 BYU in the 1979 Holiday Bowl.
• Corso will be presented with the Bill Orwig Award at the end of the first quarter. The award recognizes outstanding contributions made by a non-alumnus to IU Athletics and is named for the former AD (1961-75).
• Adnan Virk will host College Football Live (4 p.m.) and College Football Countdown (5 p.m.) inside Memorial Stadium, and he will be joined by Joey Galloway and Jesse Palmer.
• For the first time outside the College Football Playoff Semifinals and National Championship games, ESPN's Megacast production will cover the game with six alternate offerings for fans on ESPNU, ESPNEWS and ESPN3.
THE COACHES
• Tom Allen made his debut as Indiana head coach at the 2016 Foster Farms Bowl. He was named IU's 29th head coach on Dec. 1, 2016. The New Castle, Ind., native joined the Hoosiers as associate head coach/defense on Jan. 15, 2016. A 2016 Broyles Award nominee, Allen engineered one of the top defensive turnarounds in the country, as Indiana improved substantially in every major statistical category. (full bio on page 14)
• Urban Meyer is 61-6 (.911) entering his sixth season as Ohio State head coach. Meyer owns a 165-29 (.851) record in his 16th overall year with stints at Bowling Green (2001-02), Utah (2003-04) and Florida (2005-10).
NEWS & NOTES
• Indiana is opening the season on a Thursday night for the fifth time (2009, 2010, 2013, 2015) in eight years and the fourth time (2009, 2010, 2013) in Memorial Stadium history. IU is 5-0 in these games.
• The Hoosiers are 40-17 in Memorial Stadium openers with wins in 14 of their last 15 and 31 of their last 35.
• Indiana has won 13 of its last 14 season openers.
• This is the 11th time IU has opened the season against a ranked team and the first time in Bloomington.
• Ohio State accounted for two of those ranked openers, in 1952 (No. 20) and 1953 (No. 7).
• No. 4 Michigan State (1957) and No. 4 Illinois (1960) are the Hoosiers highest-ranked season-opening foes.
• Indiana last started the year against a B1G opponent in 1982, a 30-0 win over Northwestern on Sept. 11.
• IU will open a campaign against OSU for the fifth time (1938, 1952-54) and for the first time at home.
• For the first time since 1996, there will be a Big Ten matchup on the opening weekend of the season.
