
No. 4 Indiana Hosts San Francisco in adidas/IU Credit Union Classic on Friday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 4-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team will host the San Francisco Dons on Friday, Sept. 1 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium in the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic.
Kickoff for the Hoosiers' match against the Dons on Friday is slated for 8:00 p.m. ET, with the match streamed live online on BTN Plus. Live stats are available at IUHoosiers.com.

SETTING THE SCENE
• The No. 4-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team will host San Francisco, South Florida and Butler in the 2017 adidas/IU Credit Union Classic this weekend at Armstrong Stadium.
• The Hoosiers enter the weekend 2-0 on the season, beating both Cal Poly and San Diego last weekend in the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament in South Bend, Ind.
• For their efforts, Andrew Gutman, Grant Lillard and Rece Buckmaster were all named to the Mike Berticelli Memorial All-Tournament team. Gutman was also named co-Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the tournament.
• The Hoosiers return six starters from last year's team that posted a record of 12-2-7, ending the season ranked No. 9 in the country in the Unites Soccer Coaches poll.
NEWS AND NOTES
• Senior D Grant Lillard was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List for the second-straight season. Last year, Lillard earned Second-Team All-America honors from both College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer, as well as First-Team All-Big Ten and First-Team All-Region accolades.
• Lillard was also named a preseason First-Team All-America honoree by both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News.
• Along with Lillard, both Andrew Gutman and Jeremiah Gutjahr were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List.
• Gutjahr had a productive offseason, earning a spot on the USMNT U-20 team for the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship. Previously, Gutjahr has been named to the U.S. U-20 and U-18 teams.
SCOUTING THE DONS
• The San Francisco Dons come to Bloomington with an overall record of 0-2 on the season.
•USF dropped their season opener to UCLA, 3-2, and then dropped a road contest at UC Davis, 1-0, on Monday.
• Last season, San Francisco posted a record of 7-9 on the year, but did defeat Stanford, 2-1. The Cardinal would go on to win the NCAA Championship for a second-straight year.
• In a preseason poll conducted of the league's coaches, USF was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team West Coast Conference.
• Senior midfielders Aaron Lombardi and Leon Schwarzer were both named to the WCC Preseason All-Conference Team.
SERIES HISTORY
• Indiana leads the overall series over San Francisco, 5-4-3, including 2-0-2 mark at Armstrong Stadium.
• All three losses to the Dons, however, have come in NCAA Championship matches - 1976, 1978 and 1980.
• Friday's match between the two programs will mark the first since the 1992 season.

• Indiana opens the season ranked No. 4 in the nation in the Soccer America, No. 5 in the Top Drawer poll, No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 8 by College Soccer News.
• In the final United Soccer Coaches poll of 2016, the Hoosiers were ranked No. 9 in the country.
DORSEY, GUTMAN EARN WEEKLY HONORS
• Indiana freshman Griffin Dorsey was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 29 after scoring the match-winner for IU in the team's 1-0, overtime win over San Diego on Aug. 27.
• IU's Andrew Gutman was named to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week on Aug. 28 after scoring the game-winner for the Hoosiers in the team's win over Cal Poly on Aug 25. Gutman also helped Indiana post back-to-back shutouts in the season's opening weekend.
HOOSIERS START THE SEASON 2-0
• With a pair of wins over Cal Poly and San Diego on the opening weekend, Indiana began the season 2-0 for a second-straight season for the first time since 2005-06.
• The Hoosiers posted shutouts in both victories, marking the first time the team started a season with two shutouts since 2005 and marked the eighth time IU accomplished the feat.
• Indiana has started a season with three-straight shutouts three times in program history - 1998, 1979 and 1976.
LILLARD HIGHLIGHTS PRESEASON HONORS
• Grant Lillard was named a unanimous preseason first-team All-America honoree, earning the accolades from both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News.
• Lillard was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List for the second-straight year.
• Along with Lillard, both Andrew Gutman and Jeremiah Gutjahr were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List.
• In the Top Drawer Top 100 Upperclassmen rankings, Lillard checked in at No. 5 overall, while Gutman was ranked No. 76 in the country.
IU'S RECRUITING CLASS RANKED NO. 4 IN THE NATION
• IU head coach Todd Yeagley signed a highly-touted, 10-member 2017 recruiting class that was ranked No. 4 in the country by both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News.
• Among the recruits were four players with USMNT experience - Griffin Dorsey, Trey Muse, Justin Rennicks and Mason Toye.
IU POSTS 2-0-1 RECORD IN THE PRESEASON
• Indiana had another successful postseason, posting a record of 2-0-1 in the team's three matches.
•IU beat Xavier, 3-1, before taking down No. 9 Louisville, 3-2. The Hoosiers then tied Duke, 1-1, in the final exhibition match of the season.
