
No. 3 Hoosiers Face No. 2 Maryland on Friday Night

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 3-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team will head east to open Big Ten play against No. 2 Maryland on Friday night in College Park, Md.
Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET, with the match broadcast live nationally on the Big Ten Network. Live stats for the match can be found at IUHoosiers.com. A live stream of the match can also be found online at BTN2Go.com.
SETTING THE SCENE
• The No. 3-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team heads east to open Big Ten play against conference rival and No. 2-ranked Maryland on Friday night.
• The Hoosiers enter Friday's contest with a 4-0 record on the season after winning the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic this past weekend with convincing wins over San Francisco and South Florida.
• Freshman goalkeeper Trey Muse has played well this season, posting three shutouts while allowing just one goal with 10 saves.
SCOUTING THE TERRAPINS
• The Maryland Terrapins enter Friday's match with the Hoosiers with a 4-0 record on the season, including a 3-0 mark at home at Ludwig Field.
• Maryland is ranked No. 2 in the nation by Soccer America and Top Drawer Soccer, No. 3 by College Soccer News and No. 5 United Soccer Coaches.
• Maryland has taken down Santa Clara, Hofstra, No. 15 UCLA and Cal Poly this season. Earlier this year, IU beat Cal Poly, 2-0.
• In a preseason poll conducted of the league's coaches, the Terrapins were picked to win the Big Ten. IU was picked second.
• Last year, Maryland earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament after winning the Big Ten Tournament title and posting a record of 18-0-2.
• The Terrapins were shocked in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, however, by Providence, who overcame 4-1 deficit with four second half goals to win.

• Indiana leads the overall series over Maryland, 3-2-5, including a 1-1-2 mark in College Park.
• The two teams have played to draws the last three contests, with Maryland holding a 2-0-5 mark in the last seven meetings.
• Indiana's last victory over Maryland came on December 10, 2004 when IU took down the Terrapins, 3-2, in double overtime in the College Cup National Semifinals.
• The Hoosiers' last victory in College Park came on September 8, 2000 when IU won 2-1.

• Entering the weekend, IU is ranked in the top-20 in seven categories in the NCAA statistical rankings.
• Indiana is ranked seventh in total goals (11), eighth in shutout percentage (0.75), ninth in scoring offense (2.75), 11th in team goals against average (0.24), 14th in total points (28) and save percentage (0.917) and 20th in points per game (7.00).
• IU leads the Big Ten in total goals, scoring offense, total points and points per game and ranks second in the league in shutout percentage, team goals against average and save percentage.
HOOSIERS START THE SEASON 4-0
• With the team's unblemished start to the season, IU is 4-0 for the first time since 2004 and for the seventh time in program history.
• Indiana is looking to start 5-0 on a season for the first time since 2004 and for the seventh time in program history - 2004, 1997, 1984, 1978, 1975, 1974, 1973.
SWARTZ EARNS NATIONAL WEEKLY HONOR
• After scoring goals against both San Francisco (Sept. 1) and South Florida (Sept. 3), Trevor Swartz was named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week on Sept. 4.
• Swartz converted a pair of penalty kicks over the weekend to help IU win the 2017 adidas/IU Credit Union Classic.
IU WINS CLASSIC WITH DOMINATING PERFORMANCES
• With a pair of dominating wins over San Francisco (5-1) on Sept. 1 and South Florida (3-0) on Sept. 3, the Hoosiers won the 2017 adidas/IU Credit Union Classic.
• Rashad Hyacenth scored two goals to be named Most Outstanding Offensive Player, while Grant Lillard was named Most Outstanding Defensive Player. Joining them on the All-Tournament Team was Timmy Mehl and Francesco Moore.
FIVE DIFFERENT PLAYERS SCORE IN WIN OVER SAN FRANCISCO
• In a 5-1 victory over San Francisco on Sept. 1, five different players - Trevor Swartz, Mason Toye, Timmy Mehl, Francesco Moore and Rashad Hyacenth - all scored for the Hoosiers.
• Indiana scored five goals with five different scorers for the first time since they had six different players score in a 6-0 win against Butler on Oct. 19, 2005.
DORSEY, GUTMAN EARN WEEKLY HONORS
• Indiana freshman Griffin Dorsey was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 29 after scoring the match-winner for IU in the team's 1-0, overtime win over San Diego on Aug. 27.
• IU's Andrew Gutman was named to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week on Aug. 28 after scoring the game-winner for the Hoosiers in the team's win over Cal Poly on Aug 25. Gutman also helped Indiana post back-to-back shutouts in the season's opening weekend.
