HOOSIER WRESTLERS DEFEAT WISCONSIN FOR FIRST BIG TEN VICTORY
Madison, Wisc.P The Indiana Wrestling team won its first dual meet in the Big Ten by defeating Wisconsin, 21-14 and improving its record to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference competition.
The Hoosiers jumped out to an early lead as former Bloomington North star Pat Cassidy pinned Wisconsin's Brian Slater in the 118 pound weight class. Indiana's Brian Smiley then lost to All-American Eric Jetton before James Torres, Gabe Cook, and Kevin Stanley each registered victories.
The Badgers nearly came back to defeat the Hoosiers, as IU lost its matches at 158, 167, and 177, but held off the challenge with victories by Jason DeVries (190) and Mike Dixon (HWT).
