HOOSIER WRESTLERS TO OPEN UP SEASON IN ST. LOUIS
Bloomington, Ind - The Indiana Wrestling team will open the 1997-98 season this weekend in the St. Louis Open Tournament. The tournament will be held at St. Louis Community College at Forest Park, and will feature the majority of the Hoosiers' wrestlers.
Friday's competition will showcase the redshirt freshmen and some sophomores, while Saturday will be open to all wrestlers. The Open will include the top ranked team in the nation, Oklahoma State, as well as three other Big Ten teams (Illinois, Purdue and Minnesota.)
"It will be a good tournament for a lot of people," Head Coach Duane Goldman said. "It will give me a chance to see how a lot of our young guys do in collegiate competition."
The Hoosiers will have to compete without one of their top wrestlers, sophomore Tim Myers. Myers tore his ACL last week and will probably be lost for the season.
Indiana enters the season ranked 32nd by Amateur Wrestling News. The poll is selected by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, with the Top Ten teams as follows:
