HOOSIERS CONTINUE TO DOMINATE INVITATIONAL
Bloomington, Ind.--With only one more day of competition in the second annual Indiana Invitational, the Hoosiers find themselves in a solid first place beating second place Pittsburgh by 38 points.
IU started off the meet strong setting a new school record and Counsilman/Billingsley pool record in the 200-yard medley relay. Senior Amy Hennies, juniors Becky Kamberg and Jen Brooks, and freshman Jennifer Cristy cruised in for a new record time of 1:44.80 breaking the previous mark set back in 1996.
Cristy also fared well again today setting another Indiana school record in the 100-yard breaststroke. With a 1:03.88, Cristy captured the new mark beating former Hoosier Beth Burke's time by almost a whole second.
The other individual winner was Brooks grabbing her best time of the season in the 100-yard butterfly with a :56.35. She also took second in the 100-yard backstroke.
The IU dominance was well displayed in the 100-yard breast when six Hoosiers swam in the finals heat. Indiana took the top four places, sixth and eighth to add to their impressive lead.
In diving, freshman Erin Quinn snatched second place on one-meter with a point total of 368.90.
The final day of competition will take place tomorrow beginning with the prelims at 9:00 a.m., followed by the finals at 3:00 p.m.
