HOOSIER CLAIM A VICTORY AT OHIO STATE
Columbus, Ohio-- The Indiana women's swimming and diving squad defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes today in Columbus by the final score of 167-133. As a result, Ohio State suffers its first loss of the season, while Indiana's record jumps to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten Conference.
The Hoosiers proved themselves today wining ten out of the 15 events. Junior Becky Kamberg and sophomore Sarah Jacobs each had two individual victories. Kamberg led the tema in both 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, while Jacobs took firsts in the 500 and 1650-yard freestyle.
The other individual winners included senior Laurie Kerns clocking a :24.69 in the 50-yard free and junior Jen Brooks with a :2:06.68 in the 200-yard butterfly. Also, freshman Meghan Rice won the 200-yard free.
In diving, the Hoosiers dominated both events. Senior Kimiko Hirai placed first on one-meter with 259.95 points. On three-meter, the Hoosiers finished with the top three places. Freshman Erin Quinn won her first three-meter title, followed by Debbie Lipski and Hirai.
Indiana will be back in action again January 24 competing against Cincinnati at the Cousilman/Billingsley Aquatics Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00.
Quoting Nancy Nitardy: "Our team did an excellent job today. We raced really well and competed
in every event. We touched them out a lot of races which made the meet even more exciting."
