HOOSIERS TAME THE BEARCATS
Bloomington,IND.-- The Indiana women's swimming and diving team stretches its win streak to four straight defeating the Cincinnati Bearcats today at the Counsilman/Billingsley Aquatics Center 149-97. The Hoosiers stand at 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the Big Ten Conference.
Indiana dominated the meet from the start winning the 200-yard medley relay clocking a 1:47.32, and never looked back. They finished winning nine out of the 13 events.
Freshman Jen Cristy grabbed two victories to lead Indiana. Undefeated on the season, she continued to take first in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle.
Coach Nancy Nitardy said the big surprise of the day was freshman Amanda Noblet's 1650-yard free win. Known as a backstroker, Noblet touched with a 17:25.99, her lifetime best time in that event.
Other winners were senior Amy Hennies in the 100-yard back, and junior Jen Brooks in the 100-yard butterfly. The remaining victory was captured by junior Christine Jamerino. With a season best time of 1:06.21, Jamerino snatched up first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
In diving, freshman Erin Quinn won her second three meter springboard title with a score of 280.05, followed by senior Kimiko Hirai.
Quoting Nancy Nitardy: "This was a very exciting meet. We have been talking about racing the whole week, and the team really put that into action. We swam very fast today."
