INDIANA TRAVELS TO BALL STATEWHAT'S HAPPENING: The Indiana Hoosiers travel to instate rival Ball State University for a dual meet scheduled for Nov. 13 at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. The meet is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. Afterwards, Jennifer Brooks, Jennifer Cristy, and Becky Kamberg will head to Chicago to represent IU and the Big Ten against the US National Team.
ABOUT BALL STATE: The Cardinals stand at 2-1. They defeated Akron and Illinois State, but lost to Purdue. Erinn Hitch and Janene Heaton lead the Cardinals. Hitch has recorded a :58.90 in the 100-yard butterfly and Heaton swam a 1:08.54 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
LAST WEEK: Indiana (3-3) took part in the Illinois Extravaganza last weekend. The Hoosiers gave head coach Dorsey Tierney her first win of the season against Illinois State on Nov. 7. During the weekend, the Hoosiers rattled off two more wins versus Southern Illinois and Cincinnati, but fell to Illinois and Missouri.
THE NEW LOOK: With a new head coach, and a new assistant coach, Indiana swimming looks like a brand new team. The Hoosiers also bring in a group of 11 freshmen.
DIVING COACH JEFF HUBER: Dr. Jeff Huber is in his tenth year at the helm of Indian Diving. Over his tenure, he has coached 19 divers to All-American honors 50 times. Huber has won Big-Ten Diving Coach-of-the-Year honors three times.
THE SWIMMING COACHES: Entering her first season as the head coach is Dorsey Tierney. However, Tierney has Indiana ties dating back to 1994 when she was an assistant coach at IU. After a year with IU, she moved to swimming powerhouse Southern Methodist University. For three years, Tierney helped guide the Mustangs to three top-four finishes at the National Championships. Assistant coach Greg Earhart enters his first season with the Hoosiers. Earhart spent the last two years with the Minnesota Women's Swimming program as an assistant coach.
THE 1997-98 REVIEW: The Hoosiers captured their finest finish last season taking fifth place at the Big Ten Championships. All-Big Ten and All-American Jen Cristy became the first Hoosier to win an individual swimming title in ten years tying for the 50-yard freestyle victory. All-Big Ten and All-American sophomore Erin Quinn led the diving attack finishing second on the one-meter, three-meter, and ten-meter. Cristy, Quinn, Jen Brooks, and graduate Kimiko Hirai attended the NCAA Championships where IU tied for 26th.
UP NEXT: The Hoosiers host the Indiana Inviatational Nov. 20-22. Prelims are slotted for 10 a.m., followed by the finals at 6 p.m.
