INDIANA HOSTS INDIANA INVITATIONAL
WHAT'S HAPPENING: The Indiana Hoosiers host the annual Indiana Invitational this weeeknd Nov.20-22. Prelims are slotted for 10 a.m., followed by the finals at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, prelims are scheduled for 9 a.m., with the finals starting at 3 p.m. In three years, Indiana has never failed to win the invitational.
WHO'S COMING: Including Indiana, there will be seven teams swimming. Cincinnati, Missouri, Purdue, Arkansas, Pittsburgh, and Miami are also competing.
LAST WEEK: Indiana (4-3) picked up its fourth win of the season at Ball State on Saturday. The Hoosiers won 10 events out of 13 total. Although there were no double winners, freshmen Sara Reiling, and Erin Rice, sophomores Meghan Rice, Erin Quinn, and Jen Cristy, junior Libbie McCarthy, and seniors Jen Brooks and Christine Jamerino each tallied a victory. IU also swept the diving events as Quinn racked up the one-meter title and Reiling was first on three-meter.
THE NEW LOOK: With a new head coach, and a new assistant coach, Indiana swimming looks like a brand new team. The Hoosiers also bring in a group of 11 freshmen.
DIVING COACH JEFF HUBER: Dr. Jeff Huber is in his tenth year at the helm of Indian Diving. Over his tenure, he has coached 19 divers to All-American honors 50 times. Huber has won Big-Ten Diving Coach-of-the-Year honors three times.
HOOSIERS SIGN SONNEBORN: Dr. Jeff Huber announced the Indiana diving program signed Jennifer Sonneborn. A native of Bloomington, Ind. and a South high school student, Sonneborn was the 1997 Junior National Regional Champion on both one and three-meter. She also participated on one-meter in the 1998 Junior Olympics.
THE SWIMMING COACHES: Entering her first season as the head coach is Dorsey Tierney. However, Tierney has Indiana ties dating back to 1994 when she was an assistant coach at IU. After a year with IU, she moved to swimming powerhouse Southern Methodist University. For three years, Tierney helped guide the Mustangs to three top-four finishes at the National Championships. Assistant coach Greg Earhart enters his first season with the Hoosiers. Earhart spent the last two years with the Minnesota Women's Swimming program as an assistant coach.
UP NEXT: The Hoosiers have a break until Dec. 4-7 when selected swimmers will compete in the U.S. Open in College Station, Texas.
