WOMEN"S SWIMMING AND DIVING SIGN THREE RECRUITS Also relay teams ranks nationally
Bloomington, Ind.--The Indiana women's swimming and diving program announced they have signed three student/athletes for the fall of 1999. All three swimmers have recorded times that can score at the Big Ten Championships.
Sarah Bowman (Greenwood, Ind.)
Center Grove HS/Center Grove Aquatic Club
Bowman is one of Indiana's best swimmers taking second in 50-yard free and third in 100 yard free at the Indiana high school state meet last year. She is a Senior National qualifier and a United States Swimming Academic All-American. Bowman also will contribute in breaststroke events.
Kristy Martin (Gardner, Mass.)
Gardner HS/Greenwood Memorial Swim Club
Martin has qualified for both Junior and Senior Nationals. At Juniors, she was a finalist in 200-yard fly and 200-yard IM. Three weeks ago, she competed in the U.S. Open. This versatile swimmer has nearly clocked NCAA cut times.
Anne Williams (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.)
Birmingham-Seaholm HS/OLY Swim Club
Williams was the 1998 Michigan high school state champion in 50 and 100-yard free. She has been a finalist at both Senior and Junior Nationals. At Juniors, she grabbed third in the 50 free.
Also, the Indiana 400-meter freestyle relay team consisting of Christina Iaquinto, Meghan Rice, Jen Brooks, and Jen Cristy hold onto the fifth fastest time in the world and third fastest time in the country. Helena Wilhelm, Becky Kamberg, Brooks, and Cristy, the medley relay team, make up the ninth fastest time in the world and fifth in the nation.
Individually, Hoosier All-American Jen Cristy is ranked 19th in the world and fifth in the nation in the 50-meter free.
The Hoosiers compete next on Jan. 16, 1999 in a co-ed dual meet against Cincinnati. Action is set to begin at 2 p.m.
