HOOSIERS LAND THREE SWIMMERS IN U.S. OPEN FINALSCollege Station, Texas--The Indiana women's swim team made an impressive showing at the U.S. Open in College Station, Texas tonight as three Hoosiers placed in the finals heat. Swam in short course meters, the U.S. Open featured three new American Records and one World Record.
The highest finisher was sophomore Jen Cristy. Cristy touched for a fourth place finish in the 50-yard free which is good for a NCAA B cut and a Senior National cut.
Fellow seniors Becky Kamerg and Christine Jamerino made an impact with their first U.S. Open. Kamberg swam a lifetime best of 1:12.43, a Senior National cut, in the 100-yard breast to take 21st in the final bonus heat. In the 200-yard IM, Jamerino clocked a 2:21.09, a Junior National cut, to finish 24th in bonus finals.
In other races, Meredith Stettner and Libbie McCarthy swam lifetime bests in the 200-yard IM. Christina Iaquinto, Jamerino, and Meghan Rice also grabbed lifetime bests in the 50-yard free. In the 200-yard back, three Hoosiers snatched Junior National cut times. Amanda Noblet took 34th, Helena Wilhelm took 44th, and McCarthy took 50th, respectively.
IU recruit, Kristy Martin of the Greenwood Tigersharks, swam two races today. She finished 43rd in the 200-yard IM and 75th in the 100-yard breast.
The U.S.Open continues tomorrow, Dec. 4, 1998 at Texas A&M University.
