HOOSIER WRESTLERS TO FACE OFF AGAINST RIVAL PURDUE
Bloomington, Ind. - The Indiana wrestling team (6-4, 1-3) will travel to Rensselaer, Indiana to face #10 Purdue at Rensselaer High School on Sunday (Feb. 15). The meet begins at 2 p.m.
Week in Review: The Hoosiers split their two dual meets this week, defeating Southern Illinois 36-12 before falling to #12 Illinois, 31-6. Sophomore Pat Cassidy recorded his fifth pin of the season against Southern Illinois, moving him into a first place tie for the team lead in that category. Senior Jason DeVries was the only Hoosier to walk away with victories in both meets, including a 3-2 upset over #19 Pat Quirk in the final home match of his career.
IU-UI Battle: Last season the Hoosiers, ranked #22 at the time, upset #19 Purdue, 20-11 on Senior Day. The Hoosiers will need to pull off another upset, as the Boilermakers have five wrestlers ranked nationally.
Hoosier notes: With his victory over Southern Illinois' Demos Glass, Kevin Stanley became the first Hoosier to win 20 matches this season--Stanley becomes the first Hoosier to win 20 in his first season since Mike Powell in 1996--with a victory over Purdue's Mark Colegrove, Jason DeVries would tie his career high in wins set in 1995 (19)--Butch Hildebrand's 14 victories are a new career best, beating last year's total of 12.
