Michigan Grapplers Defeat Indiana, 28-9
Bloomington, Ind. -- Indiana's wrestling team traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan, this evening to take on the Michigan Wolverines in a dual match. The Wolverines came away with a 28-9 victory before 901 fans at Cliff Keen Arena. The loss dropped Indiana's record to 6-6 overall, and 1-5 in the Big Ten, while Michigan improved to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in the conference.
Indiana grabbed its only lead of the match, 3-0, as sophomore Pat Cassidy won a 12-8 decision over junior Chris Viola at 118 pounds. Michigan would go on to win six of the next seven weight classes. Other Indiana winners would include Kevin Stanley who won an 8-6 decision over Bill Lacure at 150 pounds and Jason DeVries who defeated Ryan Balcom, 4-1, in the 190-pound weight class.
Indiana will return to action on Sunday, February 22, when they travel to East Lansing, Michigan, to take on the Michigan State Spartans. The match is set for 1:00 p.m. This will be Indiana's final dual meet of the season as the Big Ten Championships will be held at Penn State on Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8.
