Christy Swims to Top 8 Finish at NCAA's
Minneapolis, MN--Indiana's Jen Christy continued her tear today, finishing in eighth place at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis. Christy joined Jen Brooks in becoming the Hoosiers only pair to ever advance to NCAA competition. Brooks advanced as a freshman and sophomore and is back again this year.
Christy swam the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.77 in the evening session to earn a podium finish. She bettered the time she swam in the qualifying session of 22.69 but got the same results, a top 8 finish.
In diving, Kimiko Hirai continued to put a cap on her stellar Hoosier career with a 24th place finish in the one-meter diving competition. She finished with a cumulative score of 366.35.
The Hoosier contingent is back in action tomorrow as Christy and Jen Brooks hit the pool. Christy will attempt to notch her 2nd All-American finish as she competes in the 100-yard freestyle while Brooks goes for her 3rd All-American finish in the 100-yard butterfly. Brooks earned All-American status in both 1997 and 1996 for her top 16 finishes in the 100-yard butterfly.
