Four Hoosiers compete at NCAA's
Minneapolis--Indiana's representatives at the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships were back in action on Friday night. Erin Quinn and Kimiko Hirai, the Hoosiers talented diving duo were in action on the three-meter platform while the two Hoosier swimmers both competed this afternoon.
Jen Brooks and freshmen Jen Christy, the only Hoosier swimmers to ever qualify for the NCAA's, competed in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard breastroke respectively. Christy swam to an eighth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle yesterday, while Brooks is swimming in her third consecutive NCAA meet.
In the qualifying session, Jen Brooks swam the 100-yard butterfly in a time of :55.06, good for a 19th place qualifying spot. Unfortunately, only the top 16 swimmers are invited back to the evening competition and are awarded All-American status.
Jen Christy also missed the evening cut, swimming to a 21st place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. She swam the event in a time of 1:03.64, just five tenths of a second off the 16th place time.
In the three-meter diving competition, Quinn finished 19th with a score of 458.75 while Hirai carded a total of 458.17, good for 20th place.
Jen Brooks and Erin Quinn are both in action tomorrow as they compete in the 100-yard freestyle and the platform competition respectively. Swimming time trials begin at 11:00 a.m. while diving gets underway at 1:00 p.m. Finals, should either individual advance, while begin at 7:00 p.m.
