WRESTLING HOOSIERS TO BATTLE IN BIG TEN TOURNAMENT
Bloomington, Ind.- The Indiana wrestling team will send its delegation to University Park, Pennsylvania this weekend for the Big Ten Wrestling Championships.
Three of the Hoosiers ten starters and four IU wrestlers are currently ranked in the new Intermat/W.I.N. Top 20 Individual Rankings, the most IU has had all season.
Redshirt freshman Kevin Stanley is ranked #17 at 150 pounds after upsetting Michigan's Bill Lacure. He leads the Hoosiers in pins (6) and wins (22) and is also ranked #10 in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News.
Senior Jason DeVries cracked the Top 20 for the first time this season, taking over the 20th spot at 190 pounds. His victory over #19 Illinois' Pat Quirk helped him gain national recognition, as he is second on the Hoosiers with 20 victories.
Sophomore Pat Cassidy, a Bloomington native, also jumped into the Nation's Top 20 for the first time, entering at the #18 slot at 118 pounds. Cassidy defeated Michigan's Chris Viola on the final weekend of the regular season, moving him ahead of the Wolverine junior.
Indiana's Mike Powell is currently ranked 11th at the 167 pound weight class but will not be wrestling at the Big Ten Championships due to an injury.
