HOOSIERS BEAT MARQUETTE, SPLIT MATCH WITH CLARION
Bloomington, Ind., The Indiana wresting team split their
dual matches today against Clarion University and Marquette University.
The Hoosiers tied Clarion 20-20 and defeated Marquette 34-10. In the other
match of the day, Clarion defeated Marquette 26-19.
Viktor Sveda (184) led the Hoosiers with two pins, giving him six on the
season. Mike Dixon (Hwt) also wrestled well, tallying two wins and collecting
his first pin of the year.
Other Hoosiers performing well were Pat Cassidy (133), Gabe Cook (149), and #8 Kevin Stanley (157). Cassidy, wrestling in his first match of the season, won two matches. His first was at 133 pounds where he defeated Brad Collins of Clarion. In his second match at 125 pounds, Cassidy knocked of Marquette's Daniel Fell.
Cook finished the day with one win, one loss and one pin. The loss came in his first match to Stan Spoor of Clarion and the pin came against Tim Scott of Marquette. Stanley, wrestling for the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, easily defeated Shane McChesney of Clarion for his win.
Marquette's Mark Angle, ranked #1 in the nation, compiled two win and managed to pin IU's James Torres. Torres rebounded in his second match, winning by more than eight points and claiming a major decision over Jamie Weigandt.
On Sunday, January 17, the Hoosiers travel to Ashland, Ohio to compete in the Wendy's Duals.
