HOOSIERS SWEEP AT WENDY'S WRESTLING CLASSIC

Ashland, Ohio, The Indiana wresting team swept all three of its meets today at the Wendy's Wrestling Classic at Ashland University. The Hoosiers defeated Delaware State by score of 35-12, Cleveland State 41-9, and Kent State 23-12. Today's wins, along with a tie against Clarion and a win over Marquette, IU now holds a record of 5-0-1.
An array of Hoosiers wrestled well today, leading the way was freshman Brett Becks (197). Becks tallied three wins while pinning Edwin Jean of Delaware State and John Cole of Cleveland State. James Torres (141) wasn't far behind. Torres won both his matches with pins. The first over Ryan Guciardo of Cleveland State and the second victory coming at the expense of Steve Daugherty of Kent State.
Gabe Cook (149) was also impressive, collecting a 3-0 record on the day. Continuing his solid wrestling, Viktor Sveda (184) went 2-1 and had one pin. Greg Schaefer (125) also was 2-1 with one pin and Mike Dixon (Hwt) compiled two wins while only losing once.
The Hoosiers next match will be Friday, January 22, 1999 when they open the Big Ten season against Northwestern. The match will be held at University Gym and begins at 7:00 p.m.
