IU WOMEN'S SWIMMING KICKS OFF 1999-2000 SEASON
Bloomington, Ind.--The Indiana Women's Swimming team began the 1999-2000 season with an Intrasquad meet at the Councilman/Billingsley Aquatics Center. The Crimson squad defeated the Cream squad 99-84.To see complete results, click
The Crimson team took both relays, and finished 1-2-3 in the 200-yard freestyle.The ten-event meet was split with each squad taking five events.
All-American Jennifer Cristy led the Crimson team, sweeping all three of her events, and anchoring the 200-yard freestyle relay. Cristy, a junior, won the 200 free, the 100 free, and the 100 breaststroke.
Freshman Kristi Martin led the Cream team. Martin won the 200 IM and the 200 fly. Senior co-captain Libbie McCarthy swam on both of the Crimson squad's winning relay teams as well as taking second in the 200 back.Junior Amanda Noblet, also a co-captain, claimed the 200 back, and contributed to the Cream squad's relay teams. For the Cream, freshman Anne Williams claimed the 50-free, and junior Megan Ryther took the 500-free.
"This was a good start for us," head coach Dorsey Tierney said. "We just needed to get into that racing frame of mind, and continue to improve."
The Hoosiers' first chance to test themselves against other squads comes
on Friday, October 27, at 6 p.m. Indiana will host Rice to kick off a full
weekend schedule.
