HOOSIERS TO BEGIN REGULAR SEASON
THIS WEEK: The Indiana women's swimming and diving team will kick off a full weekend by hosting Rice University on Friday, October 29 at 6:00 p.m. in the Counsilman/Billingsley Aquatics Center in Indiana University's Student Recreation Center. On Saturday, October 30, IU will be at Northwestern to face off against the Wildcats and Northern Illinois.The Hoosiers will spend Halloween participating in the Big Ten Relays in Evanston, Ill.
LAST SEASON: The Hoosiers finished last year with a 6-5 record. Four Hoosiers competed in the NCAA finals. Junior Jennifer Cristy placed eighth in the 50-yard freestyle, and also competed in the 100-yard free. Her efforts put her as an All-American for the second year. Divers junior Erin Quinn and sophomore Sara Reiling also competed and helped the Indiana Divers capture the national title for the fourth consecutive year. Quinn finished as high as sixth, and Reiling, tenth.
LAST WEEK: Indiana warmed up for the 1999-2000 season with an intrasquad meet last Friday. The Crimson squad won the meet 99-84. Junior Jen Cristy led the Crimson with firsts in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle, and first in the 100-yard breaststroke. Freshman Kristi Martin took the 200 IM and the 200 fly for the Cream squad. Other winners were junior Amanda Noblet (200 back), junior Megan Ryther (500 free) and freshman Anne Williams (50 free). The Crimson team took both relays to finish the ten-event meet.
A LOOK AHEAD: The Hoosiers have a five day break before they host the University of Kentucky in a co-ed meet on Saturday, November 6, at 1 p.m. in the Counsilman/Billingsley Aquatics Center at Indiana.
