HOOSIERS LOOK FOR FIRST BIG TEN VICTORY
Bloomington,Ind.--The Indiana women's swimming and diving team will look for its first Big Ten win on Friday, November 19th when it hosts the Purdue Boilermakers at 6 p.m. in the Counsilman/Billingsley Aquatics center.
LAST WEEKEND: IU was a double winner last weekend. The Hoosiers knocked off Ball State, 153-90 on Friday and University of Cincinnati 158-141 on Saturday. IU won nine of thirteen events against the Cardinals, and six of sixteen against the Bearcats.
BOILER STREAK: Purdue is coming off a weekend that saw it beat the University of Iowa and Ohio State University. PU was a 204-95 winner over the Buckeyes and a 199-100 winner over the Hawkeyes.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: Hoosier head coach Dorsey Tierney says IU "will need a total team effort" to beat the Boilers. "Our freshmen really need to step up for us. We do match up well with the Boilers, especially in the stroke events."
CAN'T CATCH CRISTY: Hoosier standout Jennifer Cristy currently holds the fastest time in the country in the 50-yard freestyle (22.94). The junior All-American also is fourth in the country in the 100-yard freestyle (50.66), and has posted a time in the 200 IM (2:06.54) that would put her in the top 25 in the nation.
BETTER THAN AN OLYMPIAN: Sophomore diver Sara Reiling added four more wins to her resume this weekend. Two of those wins were over University of Cincinnati standout Becky Ruehl. Ruehl is a former NCAA Champion (1996) and a former Olympic Platform Diver (1996).
DEEPER THAN WATER: Indiana has knocked off many foes thanks to its depth. In Saturday's meet, 25 of 27 athletes scored points for the Hoosiers, and in four of 13 events, IU scored the maximum number of people. The Bearcats won 10 of 16 events, but IU prevailed 158-141 due to a deep, talented roster.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Hoosiers have some time off until the Indiana Invitational on December 3rd-5th. On Friday and Saturday the preliminaries will begin at 11 a.m., and finals will be at 6 p.m. On Sunday the prelims will be at 9 a.m. with finals at 3 p.m.
