HOOSIERS COMPETE WELL AT ST. LOUIS OPEN

St. Louis, Missouri - Four Hoosiers began their wrestling season at the St. Louis Open at St. Louis Community College Saturday.
IU freshman Coyte Cooper won the freshman/sophomore division at 141 pounds. Cooper marched through the bracket, winning all five matches decisively, including 18-7 over Mark Natzke of Minnesota State in the championship. Cooper collected two pins and took the other three by at least eight points.
IU senior Pat Cassidy finished second in the 125-pound open division. He won his first three matches before falling 5-2 to Quantres Bates of Oklahoma in the championship. Freshman Ty Matthews also took second, falling 7-5 to Nate Patrick from Illinois in the final match. Matthews advanced through the first three rounds before the loss.
Senior Butch Hildebrand went 4-2 as he placed fourth in the 165-pound open division. He defeated Bill Zieman of Illinois, who is ranked sixth nationally, 9-8 to advance to the placing rounds. Hildebrand then fell in the semifinals before winning his only match in the loser's bracket to advance to the third place match.
