IU TO HOST OWN INVITE
Bloomington, Ind.--The Indiana women's swimming and Diving team will pair with the men's team to host four schools, eight teams including IU's two squads, in their annual Holiday Invitational. Southern Illinois and Missouri will be sending both their men and women, while Arkansas and Tennessee will send only their women's team.
WEEKEND SCHEDULE: Events begin on Friday at 10 a.m. with preliminaries, finals at 6 p.m. Saturday's schedule will be the same as Friday's. On Sunday, preliminaries will begin at 9 a.m., and finals will begin at 3 p.m. All events will be swum in the Counsilman/ Billingsley Aquatics Center in the Student Recreational Sports Center.
FLASHBACK: Last season IU finished second (869.50) to Missouri (874) in the eight-team field. Jennifer Cristy was the 50-free champ (23.26) last year, and Jennifer Watts took the 200 fly (2:03.35) in a record-breaking time. The Hoosiers also claimed both medley relays, and the 200- free relay.
HOT HOOSIERS: Jenn Cristy has already posted NCAA provisional times in the 50- (22.94) and 100- yard (50.66) freestyle events. Sophomore Sara Reiling also has posted scores high enough to qualify for the NCAA Diving Zones. Megan Ryther competed in the World Open Water Championships in mid-November. Ryther was the second American and the fourth overall in both the 5K and 10K events (59:59 and 2:07:46, respectively).
BIG BREAK: IU will have a long break after their Invitational. The Hoosiers are off until January 15, 2000 after this weekend.
