HOOSIERS COMPETE WELL AT NORTHERN IOWA OPEN
MEET INFORMATION: The Hoosiers compete in dual meets against Missouri, Central Missouri State, and Wyoming Sunday December 19. The meet is at 1 p.m. at Oak Grove H.S in Oak Grove, Missouri.

HEAD COACH DUANE GOLDMAN... is in his eighth season as the head coach and tenth season with the program. He has a career record 77-43-3, and has coached five individuals to to seven All-America honors. Goldman is just the seventh coach in the program's history and ranks fourth all-time in wins with 77.
LAST MEET: Pat Cassidy, Viktor Sveda, and Kevin Stanley led the Hoosier wrestlers in the Northern Iowa Open Saturday as each captured first in his weight class Saturday December 4.
Cassidy took first at 125 by going 5-0, collecting three pins en route to the title. He pinned Mack LaRock 56 seconds into the final match. Stanley took the championship at 157, also going 5-0. Stanley dominated his first four matches before gaining a 14-11 decision over Jacob Volman of Minnesota in the final. Sveda also went 5-0 and collected two pins as he won the 197-pound weight class. Sveda pinned Jason Payne, who wrestled unattached, 3:19 into the final.
Five other Hoosiers placed in the event: Greg Schaefer placed fifth at 125, going 8-1; Tim Meyers went 5-2 at 149 as he placed fourth; Butch Hildebrand was third at 165 with a 6-1 record and three pins on the day; Ty Matthews was 5-2 with one pin at 184 as he claimed fourth; and Mike Dixon was fourth in the heavyweight division, going 5-2 for the afternoon.
IN THE RANKINGS: Three Hoosiers made the InterMat top 20 for their respective weight classes: senior Pat Cassidy is 10th at 125, junior Kevin Stanley is fifth at 157, and sophomore Viktor Sveda is 15th at 197. The team also received votes in the InterMat top 25.
HOOSIERS ON TV: USA Sports Brodcasting will televise the Hoosiers meet at Purdue February 20. The chann el and commentators will be released when a vailable. The match begins at 1 p.m. This will be IU's first televised match.
KING PIN: Pat Cassidy collected three pins at the Northern Iowa Open to move into a tie for ninth on the IU career list. Cassidy is tied with Gary Donatelli (1970-72) with 16. He needs three more to move into a tie for seventh with three-time All-American brian Dolph (1987-90) and Chuck Wertsching (1967-69). Cassidy leads all current Hoosiers in career pins.
40 AND CLIMBING: Four current Hoosiers have at least 40 career wins: Kevin Stanley, 51; Viktor Sveda, 47; Butch Hildebrand, 42; and Pat Cassidy, 40.
JOSH ALLEY: went 2-2 at the Northern Iowa Open.
JASON BADER: went 3-2 at the Northern Iowa Open.
JASON BEALS: went 1-2 at the Northern Iowa Open.
MICHAEL BUNDY: went 4-2 with one pin to finish seventh at the Michigan State Open.
PAT CASSIDY: won the Northern Iowa Open, going 5-0 and collecting three pins en route...went 3-1 in the open division at the St. Louis Open as he finished second.
COYTE COOPER: went 5-0 with two pins and three wins by at least eight points as he wont the freshman/sophomore division of the St. Louis Open.
MIKE DIXON: went 5-2 to finish fourth at the Northern Iowa Open.
BUTCH HILDEBRAND: placed third at the Northern Iowa Open, going 6-1 with three pins...went 4-2 with one pin and defeated No. 6 Bill Zieman of Illinois as he placed fourth in the St. Louis Open.
BRYCE KARASAWA: went 2-2 at the Northern Iowa Open.
TY MATTHEWS: placed fourth in the Northern Iowa Open with a 5-2 record and one pin...went 3-1, defeating two nationally ranked competitors, on his way to a second place finish at the St. Louis Open.
TIM MYERS: placed fourth at the Northern Iowa Open with a record of 5-2 for the meet.
MATT NISCHWITZ: went 1-2 at the Northern Iowa Open.
SEAN PRINCE: finished 1-2 at the northern Iowa Open...went 3-2 with two pins to finish seventh at the Michigan State Open.
GREG SCHAEFER: finished fifth in the Northern Iowa Open, going 8-1 for the meet.
BRIAN SMILEY: went 1-2 at the Northern Iowa Open.
KEVIN STANLEY: dominated his first four matches before gaining a 14-11 victory over Jacob Volkman of Minnesota in the final of the Northern Iowa Open, he was 5-0 with one pin for the meet.
VIKTOR SVEDA: won the Northern Iowa Open going 5-0 with two pins; he pinned Jason Payne 3:19 into the final match.
JACK WADE: went 1-2 at the Northern Iowa Open.
