HOOSIERS SWEEP WEEKEND
Oak Grove, Missouri ­ The Indiana wrestling team jumped out to a 3-0 record as they dominated Wyoming, Missouri, and Central Missouri State Sunday afternoon at Oak Grove High School in Oak Grove, Missouri.
Seven Hoosiers won in all three matches: defeating Missouri (1-5) 28-12, Central Missouri State (4-3) 34-8, and Wyoming (3-2) 36-9 in the final meet of the day.
All three ranked Indiana wrestlers made it through unscathed: No. 9 Pat Cassidy (11-1) pinned two of his opponents at 125 and gained a win by forfeit against Missouri; No. 5 Kevin Stanley (8-0) remained unbeaten on the year at 157 with decisions in the first two meets and a pin of Wyoming's Brian Wood in his final match; No. 9 Viktor Sveda also made it eight for eight on the year as he took all three matches at 197, including a pin in the match against Missouri's Kevin Herron. Sveda's closest match of the season was his 19-15 decision over Wyoming's Craig Rumsey.
IU's Butch Hildebrand (165, 13-3), Ty Matthews (184, 11-3), Gabe Cook (133, 3-0), and Tim Myers (149, 8-2) also won in all three matches. Mike Dixon (6-3) went 1-2 at heavyweight and Dan Cysewski (1-2) wrestled for the first time this season, going 1-2 at 141. The Hoosiers only 0-3 day came at 174; Jack Wade lost in the Wyoming meet, Josh Alley lost in the Central Missouri meet, and Mingo Morrison fell to John Kopnisky of Missouri.
The Hoosiers next competition is at the Virginia Duals January 7-8 in Norfolk, Virginia.
