INDIANA WRESTLING TO CLOSE OUT SEASON ON THE ROAD
BLOOMINGTON, IND. - The Indiana University wrestling team will finish the regular season with a flurry of matches on Sunday, February 21, 1999. At 2:00 p.m. the Hoosiers (8-5-2, 2-5-1) will be at Eastern Illinois University and at 7:00 p.m. the Hoosiers will be at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville to face both SIUE and Missouri Valley College.
Last Week: The #23 Hoosiers had a successful week at home, defeating Wisconsin on Friday, February 12, 21-16. On Valentine's Day, IU pulled out a tie with #21 Michigan State, 20-20. In the MSU match, IU was down six points with one match remaining. Pat Cassidy (125) managed a pin against Chris Williams of MSU to even up the score and the meet.
The Hoosiers: Viktor Sveda (184) is still undefeated in Big Ten competition. Sveda is a whopping 30-2 overall and 8-0 in conference action. He is currently ranked #12 in the nation. Other Hoosiers ranked include: #13 Pat Cassidy (125), #19 James Torres (141), #13 Kevin Stanley (157), and #17 Mike Powell (174).
This weekend's matches are the last of the regular season. Next up for IU is the Big Ten Championships will be held on March 6-7, 1999 in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

HOOSIERS CLOSE OUT HOME SEASON WITH TIEBLOOMINGTON, IND. - The Indiana University
wrestling team finished its home schedule today against Michigan State with
a 20-20 tie. The Hoosiers (8-5-2, 2-5-1 Big Ten) and Spartans (4-9-1, 1-6-1
Big Ten) each had one pin and one match win in overtime.
In the last and most exciting match of the afternoon, with the Hoosiers down 20-14, IU's Pat Cassidy (125) pinned MSU's Chris Williams at :28 in the second period. With that pin, Cassidy propelled the Hoosiers into a tie with the Spartans.
Other exciting matches included the 174 pound weight class featuring #17 Mike Powell (IU) and #10 Will Hill (MSU). The match went into overtime before Hill pulled out a two point victory, 8-6.
In the heavyweight division, IU's Mike Dixon took MSU's #19 Matt Lamb into two overtimes, before gaining one point for an escape and the victory, 2-1.
IU's other ranked wrestlers also performed well today. Number 12 Viktor Sveda (184) continued to impress, defeating MSU's James Brimm, 11-3. Number 13 Kevin Stanley (157) easily handled Matt Koyl of MSU, 7-2.
The Hoosiers have a busy schedule next weekend. On Sunday, February 21, 1999, IU will travel to Eastern Illinois at 2:00 p.m. and then hit the road and travel to SIU-Edwardsville and Missouri Valley at 7:00 p.m. Those matches mark the end of the regular season for IU. Next up will be the Big Ten Championships to be held March 6-7, 1999, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
