HOOSIERS DROP FOURTH IN A ROW
COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Indiana University wrestling team lost its fourth match in a row tonight, falling to the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus. The #23 Hoosiers (7-4-1, 1-4 Big Ten) won only three matches as the Buckeyes (10-6-1, 1-2-1 Big Ten) cruised to a 28-9 victory.
While not much went the Hoosiers' way, Kevin Stanley (157), Viktor Sveda (184), and Mike Dixon (Hwt) each pulled out a victory. Stanley, currently ranked #13 by Intermat Wrestling, defeated OSU's Brian Roskovich, 5-5 by tie breaker, to open the match.
Sveda, who leads the team in both victories (25) and pins (8), improved his record to 25-3 overall while remaining undefeated in Big Ten competition at 5-0. In the heavyweight division, Dixon turned out to be the last win of the night for IU. He took the decision over Eric Wood of OSU, 6-1.
The Hoosiers next take on #11 Penn State tomorrow, February 6, 1999 at State College, Penn. The Nittany Lions (8-3, 2-1 Big Ten) are tied for fourth in the Big Ten with Michigan. The match will get underway at 6:30 p.m.
