HOOSIERS FALL TO PENN STATE, FIFTH IN A ROW
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - The Indiana University wrestling team lost its fifth consecutive match tonight, losing to Penn State 20-19. The # 22 Hoosiers (7-5-1, 1-5 Big Ten) could have tied the match, but coach Duane Goldman was penalized one point for unsportsmanlike conduct when he went out on to the mat to question the referee about a call. With that point, the #11 Nittany Lions (9-3, 3-1 Big Ten) took the match.
Once again Viktor Sveda (184) was a bright spot for the Hoosiers. In defeating PSU's Tim Vorhies, Sveda improved his overall record to 26-3, while remaining undefeated, 6-0, in Big Ten action.
Other bright spots for Indiana included Brett Becks (197), who pinned Brett Calabretta of PSU. Heavyweight Mike Dixon also defeated Mark Janus of Penn State. Number 11 James Torres (141) pinned PSU's Mark Bost, increasing his total pins to on the season to five.
The Hoosiers are off until February 12, 1999, when they return home to face Wisconsin. Just two days later, February 14, 1999, the Hoosiers are back in action again, squaring off against Michigan State in Bloomington.
