CRISTY TAKES FOURTH IN 50 FREE AT NATIONALS
Minneapolis, Minn.--Junior Jen Cristy swam a :26.07 in the 50-meter freestyle to capture fourth place at the Phillips 66 Nationals in Minneapolis, Minn. Cristy, a two-time All-American, qualified for the Olympic Trials by more than a half of second with that performance. She also grabbed 23rd in the 100-meter free with a time of :57.79.
Fellow junior Amanda Noblet swam the 200-meter backstroke. Her time of 2:21.68 was just off her personal best and was good for 47th.
Two incoming freshmen also participated in the meet. Junior National Champion Megan Geers of Greater Columbus finished 92nd in the 100-meter breaststroke with a 1:16.72, and Megan Ryther of Alamo Area Aquatics swam a 9:08.76 in the 800-meter freestyle grabbing 44th. Ryther also finished 7th in the 5K Open Water swim held on Long Lake this morning.
NBC will televise the Phillips 66 National Championships this Sunday, August 15, from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. (EDT).
In other news, senior Sarah Jacobs traveled to the Pan Maccabiah games in Mexico City. Jacobs grabbed twelve golds as a representative of the United States. She was victorious in all the freestyle events (100, 200, 400, and 800) except the 50, swept the 200 strokes (back, breast, and fly), and wrapped things up winning both IM's and all three relays.
Finally, another incoming freshman was also in competition over the weekend. Maggie Helmers of Hamilton, Ohio participated at the YMCA Nationals in Maryland. Maggie took 16th in the 200 butterfly, 30th in the 50 and 100 fly, and 35th in the 200 IM.
The Hoosiers' 1999-2000 season debut is the annual Cream and Crimson
Intrasquad meet set for October 23.
