No. 23 HOOSIERS HEAD TO WENDY'S DUALS
MEET INFORMATION: The 23rd ranked Hoosiers compete in the Wendy's Duals in Sunday January 16 in Ashlad, Ohio. IU will face Slippery Rock, Binghamton, and Cleveland State in dual meet competition.

HEAD COACH DUANE GOLDMAN... is in his eighth season as the head coach and tenth season with the program. He has a career record 83-45-3 (.645), and has coached five individuals to seven All-America honors. Goldman is just the seventh coach in the program's history and ranks fourth all-time in wins with 83.
LAST MEET: The Indiana wrestling team defeated Ohio and No.
23 Rider before exiting Virginia Duals with a 19-18 loss to No.
13 Lehigh Saturday January 8 in Hampton, Virginia.
The Hoosiers (6-2) started day two with a close match with Ohio.
The Hoosiers managed to win the 19-19 match despite taking just
four of ten weight classes. IU won the match on the tiebreaker
of near-fall points with a 12-5 advantage in that area. Eighth
ranked Pat Cassidy started the match with a pin at 125. Tim Myers
scored the next IU victory at 149, Michael Bundy followed with
a 5-0 win at 174, and Mingo Morrison claimed a 5-4 decision at
174. Fifth ranked Kevin Stanley and ninth ranked Viktor Sveda
each suffered their first dual meet setback of the year.
The Hoosiers then faced Rider in the consolation round quarterfinal,
gaining a 23-12 victory. IU took the first two matches with Cassidy
and Gabe Cook taking 125 and 133, respectively. Rider won 141
and 149 before Indiana won the next four weights to clinch the
match. Stanley (157), 19th ranked Butch Hildebrand (165), Jack
Wade (174), and Ty Matthews (184) were victorious in the streak.
In their final match of the day, the Hoosiers fell 19-18 to Lehigh.
Cassidy, Cook, and Stanley also won in this match. Sveda won
at 197 to give IU a two-point lead going into the heavyweight
round. Michael Dixon gave Lauglin all he could handle before
falling 2-0 to give Lehigh the weight and the meet.
IN THE RANKINGS: The Hoosiers jumped into the InterMat and National Wrestling Coaches Association polls for the first time this week. IU is No. 23 in both. Also, four Hoosiers made the InterMat top 20 for their respective weight classes: senior Pat Cassidy is sixth at 125, junior Kevin Stanley is 11th at 157, sophomore Viktor Sveda is 15th at 197, and freshman Ty Matthews cracked the top 20 for the first time, debuting at No. 18 for 184 pounds.
165 IS KEY: 165 is a key weight class for the Hoosiers in dual meet competition. IU is 5-0 when taking 165, and 1-2 when losing that weight.
MULTI-MEET MANIA: The Hoosiers have competed in more than one meet three times this year and are 3-0 in the first meet, 2-1 in the second meet that day, and 1-1 in the third meet of the day.
HOOSIERS ON TV: IU will make its first television appearance of the season in the match at Minnesota. The 4 p.m. match will be on Midwest Sports Channel. Also, USA Sports Broadcasting will televise the Hoosiers meet at Purdue February 20. The channel and commentators will be released when a available. The match begins at 1 p.m.
KING PIN: Pat Cassidy collected has nine pins this season, which ties for ninth all-time at IU. He now has 21 for his career, which is tied for sixth at Indiana with Sam Komar (1975-78). Cassidy leads all current Hoosiers in season and career pins.
48 AND CLIMBING: Four current Hoosiers have at least 48 career wins: Kevin Stanley, 57; Viktor Sveda, 57; Butch Hildebrand, 48; and Pat Cassidy, 48.
NO ROOM FOR DOUBT: IU wrestlers have combined for 42 pins in 248 (151-97) matches this season. That's 27.8 percent of the Hoosier victories and 16.9 percent of all matches are won by fall. Pat Cassidy leads the team with nine pins in 17 matches, Butch Hildebrand is next with seven in 20 matches, and Viktor Sveda is third with six in 18 matches this season.
DO I HEAR 100: The current roster has 97 career pins combined, including 42 this season.
PLAYING PERCENTAGES: Viktor Sveda has an .864 (57-9) career winning percentage which ranks ninth on the IU career list.
TOUGH LEAUGUE: Ten of the 11 Big Ten teams are ranked or receiving votes in the InterMat Top 25 . Nine of those teams are in the Top 25 and three are in the top 10.

DAN CYSEWSKI: defeated then eight ranked Damion Logan of Michigan in IU's quarterfinal meet at the Virginia Duals...defeated Justin Gonzales of Wyoming 11-5...was pinned by Zac Knight of Central Missouri State...fell to Jeremy Spates of Missouri 20-5...went 0-2 in the Northern Iowa Open.
MIKE DIXON: fell 4-3 to Brad Steele of Wyoming...won 4-2 in overtime against Willie McCowan of Central Missouri State...lost a 2-1 decision to Chad Hertzog of Missouri...went 6-2 to finish fourth at the Northern Iowa Open...went 3-2 in the St. Louis Open
