No. 23 HOOSIERS GO 3-0 AT WENDY'S DUALS
Ashland, Ohio - The IU wrestling team dominated Slippery Rock, Binghamton, and Cleveland State in the Wendy's Duals Sunday in Ashland, Ohio.
The Hoosiers (9-2) took nine of ten weights in a convincing 38-6 win over Slippery Rock. Pat Cassidy (125), Dan Cysewski (149), and Michael Dixon (HWT) all won with pins in the meet. Cassidy, ranked sixth in the nation at 125, is now 19-1 and has won 15 straight. Indiana's other two ranked wrestlers also won with 15th-ranked Viktor Sveda (17-4) earning an 11-10 decision at 197 and 11th-ranked Kevin Stanley gaining a 6-1 triumph at 157.
IU then gained a 28-15 victory over a solid Cleveland State team, taking six matches in the meet. 1999 NCAA-qualifier James Torres mad his season debut with a 21-8 victory at 141. Cassidy, Cysewski, and Stanley also won in this dual meet, with Jack Wade (174) and 18th-ranked Ty Matthews (184) rounding out the IU wins.
The Hoosiers finished the day with an impressive 41-3 win over Binghamton. IU again took nine matches, only falling at 149. Sveda and Stanley (14-2) both won by fall, with Torres (2-0) and Matthews (15-6) claiming technical fall victories.
The Hoosiers host sixth-ranked Illinois in their home and conference opener Friday. The meet begins at 7 p.m. at University Gymnasium.
