HOOSIERS HEAD TO VIRGINIA DUALS
MEET INFORMATION: The Hoosiers compete at the Virginia Duals Saturday and Sunday January 7-8 in Hampton, Virginia. The event is a 16 team dual meet tournament. The Hoosiers will begin at 7 a.m. or 9 a.m. Friday depending on their spot in the bracket. The draw will be made Thrusday evening. The other teams are: North Carolina (RV), No. 7 Michigan, Northern Iowa, Ohio, Pittsburgh, No. 23 Rider, US Air Force Academy, Virginia Tech, Brigham Young (RV), Drexel, No. 10 Edinboro, Harvard (RV), Hofstra, No. 13 Lehigh, and Virginia. (RV=receiving votes)

HEAD COACH DUANE GOLDMAN... is in his eighth season as the head coach and tenth season with the program. He has a career record 80-43-3, and has coached five individuals to to seven All-America honors. Goldman is just the seventh coach in the program's history and ranks fourth all-time in wins with 80.
LAST MEET: The Hoosiers jumped out to a 3-0 record as they
dominated Wyoming 36-9, Missouri 28-12, and Central Missouri
State 34-8 Sunday afternoon at Oak Grove High School in Oak Grove,
Missouri.
Seven Hoosiers won in all three matches, including all three
that are ranked in the InterMat top 20. Ninth ranked Pat Cassidy
(11-1) pinned two of his opponents at 125 and gained a win by
forfeit against Missouri. Fifth ranked Kevin Stanley (8-0) remained
unbeaten on the year at 157 with decisions in the first two meets
and a pin of Wyoming's Brian Wood in his final match. Viktor
Sveda, also ranked ninth, made it 11 for 13 on the year as he
took all three matches at 197, including a pin in the match against
Missouri's Kevin Herron. Sveda's closest match of the season
was his 19-15 decision over Wyoming's Craig Rumsey.
IU's Butch Hildebrand (165, 13-3), Ty Matthews (184, 11-3), Gabe
Cook (133, 3-0), and Tim Myers (149, 8-2) also won in all three
matches. Mike Dixon (6-3) went 1-2 at heavyweight and Dan Cysewski
(1-2) wrestled for the first time this season, going 1-2 at 141.
The Hoosiers only 0-3 day came at 174; Jack Wade lost in the
Wyoming meet, Josh Alley lost in the Central Missouri meet, and
Mingo Morrison fell to John Kopnisky of Missouri.
The Hoosiers next competition is at the Virginia Duals January
7-8 in Hampton, Virginia.
IN THE RANKINGS: Four Hoosiers made the InterMat top 20 for their respective weight classes: senior Pat Cassidy is eighth at 125, junior Kevin Stanley is fifth at 157, sophomore Viktor Sveda is ninth at 197, and senior Butch Hildebrand cracked the top 20 for the first time, debuting at No. 19. The team also received votes in the InterMat top 25. (See all IU rankings for the season on page 9 of the notes.)
HOOSIERS ON TV: USA Sports Broadcasting will televise the Hoosiers meet at Purdue February 20. The channel and commentators will be released when a available. The match begins at 1 p.m. This will be IU's first televised match.
KING PIN: Pat Cassidy collected two pins December 19 to move into seventh on the IU career list. He needs one more to move into a tie for sixth Sam Komar (1975-78). Cassidy leads all current Hoosiers in career pins.
40 AND CLIMBING: Four current Hoosiers have at least 40 career wins: Kevin Stanley, 54; Viktor Sveda, 53; Butch Hildebrand, 46; and Pat Cassidy, 43.
NO ROOM FOR DOUBT: IU wrestlers have combined for 35 pins in 195 (123-72) matches this season. That's 28.5 percent of the Hoosier victories and 17.9 percent of all matches are won by fall. Pat Cassidy leads the team with eight pins in 12 matches, Butch Hildebrand is next with seven in 16 matches, and Viktor Sveda is third with five in 13 matches this season.
DO I HEAR 100: The current roster has 90 career pins combined and may be able to break the century mark at the Virginia Duals.
PLAYING PERCENTAGES: Viktor Sveda has a .869 career winning percentage which ranks seventh on the IU career list. Tim Myers has also moved into the top 15 and sits at 13th with a .853 mark.
TOUGH LEAUGUE: Ten of the 11 Big Ten teams are ranked or receiving votes in the InterMat Top 25 .Eight of those teams are in the Top 25 and six are in the top 10.
JOSH ALLEY: lost 11-3 to Matt Johnson of Central Missouri State...went 2-2 with at the Northern Iowa Open, first career pin came in his third match of the event...went 0-2 in the St. Louis Open.
JASON BADER: went 0-2 at the Northern Iowa Open...finished 0-2 in the St. Louis Open.
JASON BEALS: went 1-2 at the Northern Iowa Open.
MICHAEL BUNDY: went 3-2 at the Northern Iowa Open...finished 3-2 in the St. Louis Open...went 4-2 with two pins to finish seventh at the Michigan State Open.
PAT CASSIDY: pinned Cisco Gonzales of Wyoming...pinned Ian McGeorge of Central Missouri State...claimed victory by forfeit against Missouri...won the Northern Iowa Open, going 5-0 and collecting three pins en route...went 3-1 with two pins in the open division at the St. Louis Open as he finished second.
GABE COOK: took an 8-1 decision against Corey Hamrick of Wyoming...defeated Luke Shaw of Central Missouri State...won 5-3 over Mark Bader of Missouri.
COYTE COOPER: went 5-0 with two pins and three wins by at least eight points as he wont the freshman/sophomore division of the St. Louis Open.
DAN CYSEWSKI: defeated Justin Gonzales of Wyoming 11-5...was pinned by Zac Knight of Central Missouri State...fell to Jeremy Spates of Missouri 20-5...went 0-2 in the Northern Iowa Open.
MIKE DIXON: fell 4-3 to Brad Steele of Wyoming...won 4-2 in overtime against Willie McCowan of Central Missouri State...lost a 2-1 decision to Chad Hertzog of Missouri...went 6-2 to finish fourth at the Northern Iowa Open...went 3-2 in the St. Louis Open
BUTCH HILDEBRAND: pinned Jeremy Sell of Wyoming...pinned Jason Kusick of Central Missouri State...won 16-5 over Mark Vollmar of Missouri...placed third at the Northern Iowa Open, going 6-1 with three pins...went 4-2 with one pin and defeated No. 6 Bill Zeman of Illinois as he placed fourth in the St. Louis Open.
BRYCE KARASAWA: went 2-2 at the Northern Iowa Open...went 1-2 in the St. Louis Open.
TY MATTHEWS: pinned Dave Schenk of Wyoming...dominated John Rolling of Central Missouri State, winning 13-0...defeated Josh Maze of Missouri 6-1...placed fourth in the Northern Iowa Open with a 5-2 record and one pin...went 3-1, defeating two nationally ranked competitors, on his way to a second place finish at the St. Louis Open.

GREG SCHAEFER: finished fifth in the Northern Iowa Open, going 8-2 for the meet and collecting three pins...went 1-2 in the St. Louis Open.

KEVIN STANLEY: pinned Brian Wood of Wyoming...defeated Lee Gatlin of Central Missouri State 15-6...gained a 5-2 decision over Jesse Jordan of Missouri...dominated his first four matches before gaining a 14-11 victory over Jacob Volkman of Minnesota in the final of the Northern Iowa Open, he was 5-0 with one pin for the meet.
VIKTOR SVEDA: defeated Craig Rumsey of Wyoming 19-15...won 16-6 against Korak Simmons of Central Missouri State...pinned Kevin Herron of Missouri...won the Northern Iowa Open going 5-0 with four pins; he pinned Jason Payne 3:19 into the final match...went 3-2 in the St. Louis Open.
