HOOSIERS FACE NORTHWESTERN AND MARQUETTE
MEET INFORMATION: The 23rd-ranked Hoosiers return to the road to face Northwestern and Marquette in Evanston, Illinois Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m. IU then heads to Michigan for a 6:30 p.m. matchup with the tenth-ranked Wolverines.

HEAD COACH DUANE GOLDMAN... is in his eighth season as the head coach and tenth season with the program. He has a career dual meet record of 87-50-3 (.632), and has coached five individuals to seven All-America honors. Goldman is just the seventh coach in the program's history and ranks fourth all-time in wins with 87.
LAST MEET: James Torres, Ty Matthews, and Michael Dixon all
gained their first conference dual wins of the year as the Hoosiers
fell to Ohio State 24-15 Saturday afternoon at University Gymnasium.
Matthews (7-8, -2 Big Ten) gained his win at 184 over Ohio State's
Donovan True. Matthews scored a reversal and a point for riding
time in the final period to gain the 7-3 decision. Torres improved
to 4-1 (1-1 Big Ten) on the year at 141 as he scored the 7-2
victory over Sean Petersen. Torres tallied three takedowns and
one escape while allowing just two escapes in the match. Dixon
gained a 2-1 decision over Tony Sylvester. Dixon (14-16, 1-4
Big Ten) scored both points in the second period, starting with
an escape. He picked up the second point as Sylvester was penalized
for stalling. Sylvester's only score came on an escape in the
final stanza.
IU senior Pat Cassidy (22-4, 2-3 Big Ten) claimed his win by
forfeit. Ohio State moved Kore Sharpley up to 133 rather than
have him face Cassidy, who is ranked fifth nationally at 125.
Sophomore Viktor Sveda (22-5, 3-2 Big Ten) faced his fifth top-ten
opponent at 197 in just over two weeks. He fell to seventh-ranked
Nick Preston of Ohio State in a close 5-3 match. Preston spent
much of the second half of the match backing away from Sveda
and did get penalized one point stalling in the third period.
Sveda is now 3-2 against top-ten foes as he continues to excel
after moving up from 184, where he was an All-American last season.
IN THE RANKINGS: The Hoosiers are receiving votes in the InterMat poll and the National Wrestling Coaches' Association poll. Also, three Hoosiers made the InterMat top 20 for their respective weight classes: senior Pat Cassidy is fifth at 125, junior Kevin Stanley is 11th at 157, and sophomore Viktor Sveda is ninth at 197. WORLD CLASS: IU assistant coach Charles Burton is a member of the United State Freestyle Wrestling Team. Burton is ranked second nationally in the 187.25 pound weight class. He won the gold medal at a world-class event in Iran in January. The event included the top-ranked wrestler in the world. He will next compete for the US in world duals against Russia (Feb. 8 in Edinboro, Pa.) and Cuba (Feb. 15 in Houston, Texas).
I'M HERE TO BUMP YOU UP: Dan Cysewski has bumped up from 149 to 165 twice this year to fill in for injured Hoosiers. Both Butch Hildebrand and Michael Bundy missed the first half of the conference season to leave IU thin at 165.
TORRES RETURNS: Two-time NCAA qualifier, James Torres, returned to the Hoosier lineup at the Wendy's Duals after missing the first two months of the season. He is 4-1 (1-1 Big Ten) since returning.
165, 174, AND 187 ARE KEY: The Hoosiers are unbeaten in dual meets when winning at each of these weights. IU is 7-0 when taking 165, 6-0 when winning 174, and 10-1 with a triumph at 184. Likewise, Indiana is 3-7, 5-7, and 1-6, respectively, when losing those weights.
INJURY REPORT: Four Hoosiers are out with injuries for this weekend: Michael Bundy (rehabilitating from cracked vertebrae in neck, questionable), Brett Becks (broken leg, season), Butch Hildebrand (rahabilitating after fractured knee cap, questionable), and Jack Wade (sprained knee, season).
RETURNING QUALIFIERS: The Hoosiers return five NCAA Qualifiers: Pat Cassidy (125), James Torres (141), Kevin Stanley (157), Viktor Sveda (184, now at 197), and Michael Dixon (HWT)
BATTLING THE BEST: Viktor Sveda is 4-3 against ranked opponents and 3-2 in duals with top-ten foes.Pat Cassidy is 1-4 against ranked competitors with all four losses coming against top-five opponents.
MULTI-MEET MANIA: The Hoosiers have competed in more than one meet on the same day four times this year and are 4-0 in the first meet, 3-1 in the second meet, and 2-1 in their third meet of the day.
HOOSIERS ON TV: The IU match at Purdue February 20 will be broadcast by USA Sports Broadcasting. The channel and commentators will be released when a available. The match begins at 1 p.m.
KINGS OF PIN: Pat Cassidy has ten pins this season, which is tied for eighth all-time at IU. He now has 22 for his career, which is sixth at Indiana . Cassidy leads all current Hoosiers in season and career pins. Viktor Sveda now has 18 pins for his career and is tenth on the IU career list. Sveda is up yo nine this year which ties for tenth at IU in a season.
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: IU sophomore Viktor Sveda earned Big Ten Wrestler-of-the-Week honors January 26 after defeating No. 10 Lee Weber of Iowa and No. 6 Pat Quirk of Illinois on the opening weekend of conference competition.
48 AND CLIMBING: Five current Hoosiers have at least 48 career wins: Kevin Stanley, 68; Viktor Sveda, 64; Pat Cassidy, 54; James Torres, 51; and Butch Hildebrand, 48 .
NO ROOM FOR DOUBT: IU wrestlers have combined for 47 pins in 310 (183-127) matches this season. That's 25.7 percent of the Hoosier victories and 15.2 percent of all matches are won by fall. Pat Cassidy leads the team with nine pins in 21 matches, and Butch Hildebrand and Viktor Sveda are next as each have seven pins in 21 and 22 matches, respectively.
NOT GOING THE DISTANCE: The current roster has picked up 116 career pins combined, including 47 this season.
PLAYING PERCENTAGES: Viktor Sveda has an .853 (64-11) career winning percentage which ranks 12th on the IU career list.
TOUGH LEAGUE: Ten of the 11 Big Ten teams are ranked or receiving votes in the InterMat Top 25 . Eight of those teams are in the Top 25 and four are in the top 10.
INCOMING: The Hoosiers have signed two wrestlers for next season. Dustin Heist of Meadville, Pennsylvania will probably wrestle at 174 or 184 and Pat DeGain of Clarkston, Michigan will enter at 197 or heavyweight.
FAMILY AFFAIR: The Cysewski family is well represented in the Big Ten. Dan Cysewski's uncle, also named Dan was a four-year letterwinner at IU from 1975-78, and Tim Cysewski, the head wrestling coach at Northwestern, is the father of the current IU wrestler.
BROTHERS OPPOSED: IU assistant coach Lenny Zalesky is the brother of Iowa head coach Jim Zalesky.
JOSH ALLEY: lost 11-3 to Matt Johnson of Central Missouri State...went 2-2 with at the Northern Iowa Open, first career pin came in his third match of the event...went 0-2 in the St. Louis Open.
