Rowing Team Looks Forward to Fall 2000

The Indiana University Women's Rowing Team has finished the inaugural season and is now preparing for the second year. The team of 40 women capped off the final race of the year by placing 11th at the Central Region Regatta with only two boats entered, a varsity 4 and novice 8. The boats finished 5th and 6th respectively. The team is now at home or at summer school preparing for the upcoming fall head racing season. School begins the 28th of August and the rowers will be anxious to return to the waters of Lake Lemon and get tuned up for competition. The new fall schedule includes the 3rd Annual LemonHead Regatta in Bloomington on October 14th and should draw a number of quality teams from around the region. Coach Mark Wilson explains "We are hosting this event as a real good experience for rowers of all ability and experience to come to Bloomington and to have a great time on the lake. This event is open to all clubs, universities, high schools and individuals and we hope to show off our facilities and the wonderful Hoosier Hospitality that Indiana University is known to provide." " We are also trying to educate the public and the people of Bloomington and show them a little more about the sport."
Indiana University is also proud to announce the acceptance of scholarships in crew by Annika Hosni (Downers Grove, IL), Adriane Cline (Grosse Pointe, MI), Marit Chrislock (St. Paul, MN) and Stacy Kadela (Dublin, OH). The four incoming scholarship rowers will also be joined by a number of recruited walk on athletes which will make the novice squad a great group to work with. The Indiana team has also awarded scholarship aid to Megan Gallagher (Bloomfield Hills, MI). "Megan is the type of athlete that will make this team a very fast crew. She is not outspoken in words but her dedication to the team and her physical ability in the boats and on land are models for others." Explained Coach Wilson.
The upcoming season will be a great chance to see the young Hoosier team in action, there will be more home events and as the team grows in size and ability the results will demand attention. We look forward to the chance to train hard, compete hard and play hard. The women on the team are looking forward to seeing and meeting each other and with a great group of incoming freshman, we know the team will be one to look to in the years ahead.
