Journal of Erin Quinn from Orlando, Florida
The Indiana diving team arrived in Orlando, Florida for their annual training trip and competition. Senior Erin Quinn was kind enough to lend us her thoughts during this time of training and working hard.
Senior captain Erin Quinn gives us events from each day of their annual training trip to Orlando, Fla.

7 a.m. - I awoke awaiting another day of two practices and went for breakfast prior to training.
7:40 a.m. - Headed over to the pool which thankfully was right next door because I was suffering some pain in my shoulder.
8 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. - Practiced lists on one, three and 10-meter boards. I enjoy working out on the tower because it is such a great rush.
10:45 a.m. - I was pretty sore after practice so I went into the trainer's room and got a massage to get me ready for the afternoon session. Working out on tower gives me some soreness because we have to dive over and over again.
11:45 p.m. - I went to the grocery store with Marc (Carlton) and grabbed some lunch prior to the afternoon session.
12:30 p.m. - Marc and I stopped by the SID's room to view some practice videos and it was somewhat entertaining.
1:30 p.m. - We arrived at the pool for some stretching and due to the soreness from yesterday I had to stretch a little longer than usual.
2 p.m. - Another practice and although it might seem boring, practice is so exciting. I love to dive on tower. Some of the divers missed some dives, but all in all it was a solid practice.
4 p.m. - It's somewhat nice to be working out at the YMCA because not only do we have access to the weight room as well. We hit the weights for about an hour and it felt good. I got extremely sore during practice so I had to get some work done when I got back to the hotel.
5 p.m. - After weights and practice I got into the shower and got ready for our team dinner at Don Pablo's. Another day of practice is over and it was a good day of workouts.
6 p.m. - We went to dinner at Don Pablo's which is right down the street on International Drive and it took forever to get a seat. We had 18 people and Jason (Baumann) and our SID walked over before everyone to get us a table and they said the wait would be an hour. Thank god that it didn't turn out that way because when we got there it was just a short time and we had three booths seating six each. It was a good dinner and we decided to walk back afterward.
8 p.m. - It's so nice that we had a trainer on the trip because I needed something for the soreness that had developed in my shoulder and arm. I went to the trainer's room and got ice placed on my arm along with stem treatments which made it feel a bit better, but I know that tomorrow it's going to feel like I was hit by a bus.
8:15 to 10 - A bunch of us got together at the SID's room and decided to watch practice videos from today and yesterday. We saw what we were doing wrong, but some of the dives were really frightening. Alex (Burns) landed on his face on one dive and Lori (Matthys) landed square on her back on another. Man, we all cringed at the same time when we saw and heard the impact of Alex's twister. He never came out of the twist and it was a good thing he lowered his head into the water or else he would have landed on his face. He was hurting afterward and you could see it. It's scary sometimes up on that platform especially in a foreign pool.
I had to go back to the trainer because my tendinitis decided it wanted to play games with me again. I got another rubdown and I am hoping this will make it through until tomorrow afternoon. The session was somewhat eventful after the trainer put some cream on my arm and it burned. She felt awful and slapped a sopping wet towel on my arm to relieve the pain. We all screamed at the same time and then my mom called. It was pretty funny, but I feel awful for the trainer. (Sorry)
Since the night was pretty much over and I knew that I was going to feel like an 18-wheeler drove over me tomorrow I decided to turn in in preparation for another early morning.

7 a.m. - We awoke and had breakfast at the hotel before training. The breakfast consisted of danish, toast, bagels and juice. It was pretty much a continental breakfast.
7:40 a.m. - We arrived at the YMCA pool and began stretching for our first practice of the day.
8 a.m. - 10 a.m. - We practiced on both the one-meter and three-meter springboards, with little work on tower. We looked good although we do have our work cut out for us. I practiced the majority of the morning on the one-meter while some other completed their lists on the three-meter.
10 a.m. - 1 p.m. - We had a few hours to recuperate from the first practice and some of us went over to the supermarket across the road to get some good food for the week. Some laid out in the warm sun while others took naps and just relaxed.
1:30 p.m. - We arrived at the pool and began stretching for our competition. We competed on the one-meter with six optionals being scored.
2 p.m.-4 p.m. - We competed against Oakland University. Although the competition was not scored on the team level, we competed individually and I finished second. Sara (Reiling) won and we did fairly well.
4 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. - We concluded the practice day with a short practice before dinner. We did some lead-ups on the five and seven meter towers while others continued work on the one and three-meter springboards.
4:45 p.m. - 6 p.m. - The coaches went to Don Pablo's for dinner while we just tripped over to the food court across the street. Some of us didn't leave because we had gone to the supermarket today and had food.
6 p.m. - 9:45 p.m. - We went on what could be called an "adventure." We were looking to go to the Boardwalk at Epcot Center and after departing the hotel at 6:30 or so we did not have correct directions to get to the Boardwalk and that made for an interesting jaunt. We stopped three or four times and finally after two hours made it to the Boardwalk. We walked around the Boardwalk where the ESPN Club is and other things are. The funniest part was that the trip home took all of 20 minutes! Yet it took us two hours to get there? We really had no clue. Anyway it was a fun night and when we got back to the hotel it was time for bed after a long day of practice and another early morning.
