Indiana Competes at US Diving Zone Championships
Meet Data
Indiana competes at US Diving Zone Championships in Beaverton, Oregon April 6-8. Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation Center will host the meet. The top five divers at each level will advance to US Nationals in Midland, Texas April 17-22.

Diving Coach Jeff Huber
Head Diving Coach Dr. Jeff Huber is a six time Big Ten Diving Coach of the Year and two time U.S. National Diving Coach of the Year. He has coached 17 Big Ten Champions, seven Big Ten divers-of-the-year, and one Big Ten record holder. Huber added Olympic team coach to his resume when he coached Indiana diver Sara Reiling to a 13th place finish in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Special Guest Appearance
Sara Reiling returns to the competitive stage for the first time since her Olympic debut this past fall in Sydney. Reiling will be diving unattached. At the 2001 games, she missed the final round by one spot to finish 13th.Reiling is the defending three-meter US National Champion. She red-shirted this year after taking the first semester off for the Olympics.

"This is a different meet in that we will be competing against a larger variety of divers. How many go to Texas depends on how we dive. It's always hard to tell. This is what we've been preparing for all year, and I feel they're ready."
On The Men's Side:
Tom Davidson
Davidson was named the 2000 IU Diver of the Year and is well on his way to earning the title again. He is a four-time All-Big Ten selection and returning All-American. At this year's Big Ten Championship, Davidson won the one-meter board and took second on three-meter for the third time in his career. Davidson won the one-meter at NCAA zone diving championships and placed third on three-meter. At NCAAs, Davidson had his highest finish on both one-meter and three-meter. He placed in the top eight for the first time on one-meter, earning All-American status at third place. He followed that up with a 13th place showing on three-meter to single handedly give Indiana a 26th place finish. He earned Honorable Mention All-American status by placing 16th on one-meter and 14th on three-meter at the 2000 NCAA Championship. He was fifth on one-meter at last year's US Nationals.
Wrapping Up the Wins
Davidson has won eight of nine one-meter competitions entered this season, including the Big Ten Championship. On three-meter, he holds three wins, and four second place finishes, one of which came to Marc Carlton.
Big Ten Honors for Davidson
Senior Tom Davidson was named Big Ten diver of the week January 30 following his dominating performance against Michigan. Davidson won the one-meter dive with a career high score of 352.95 points. He finished second in the three-meter to teammate Marc Carlton with 315.52 points. Carlton won the event with 316.87 points. The Hoosiers held Michigan to only seven points in the diving events .
Eric Robson
Robson is a tower specialist who has worked on his springboard list. He won the platform dive at the 2000 Big Ten Championship and placed 11th at the NCAA Championship, and took second at the 2001 Indiana Dive-off. On the springboard, he has collected six top three finishes, including second on one-meter and third on three-meter against Purdue and third on three-meter at the Indiana Invite.
Take it From the Top
When a team does not get the opportunity to compete in platform diving on a regular basis, specialized divers adjust their training for the scheduled competition. Sophomore Eric Robson has always focused on tower, and the results will be evident at the NCAA Championship. He holds the 2000 Big Ten platform crown and looks to make a national statement this week. At 135 pounds, Robson is lighter than most divers and takes advantage of this in his speed of spins off of the platform.
Marc Carlton
Davidson joins the Indiana squad as a valuable freshman who has made an immediate impact. At the Big Ten Championship, he placed sixth on platform and 13th on three-meter. At NCAA zone championships, he placed 21st on one-meter, 13th on three-meter, and fifth on platform. Against Michigan, Carlton won the three-meter board with 316.87 points. He placed second to Tom Davidson on three-meter at the Indiana Dive-off and took third against Kentucky.
Adam Hazes
Hazes' best finishes have been on the three-meter board. He took third place at the Indiana Invite, against Michigan, and at Ohio State. At Purdue, Hazes placed second on three-meter and third on one-meter. He took 11th at the Big Ten Championship and took 10th on one-meter. At the NCAA zone championships, he had his best one-meter performance finishing sixth. He took 11th on three-meter.
Alex Burns
As a freshman, Burns has competed in every meet this season. He placed second on three-meter and third on one-meter against Evansville. At the Indiana Invite, he took sixth on three-meter. He took 20th on three-meter at the Big Ten Championship.
On The Women's Side:
Erin Quinn
After redshirting a season due to a ligament tear in her elbow, Quinn has returned as Indiana's top diver. She took second place on one-meter at the Big Ten Championship for the second time. She won three-meter and finished second on one-meter at NCAA zone diving championships. At NCAAs, Quinn placed sixth on one-meter and 22nd on three-meter.
During the season, she collected six first place finishes, including a sweep of both boards against Kentucky. Quinn also won the three-meter at Ohio State, Purdue, and the Indiana Dive-off. She took first in the one-meter collegiate division at the dive-off.
As a sophomore, Quinn received All-American status by placing sixth on one-meter and ninth on three-meter at the NCAA Championship.
Big Ten Honors for Quinn
Erin Quinn was named Big Ten diver of the week on January 9th. The award followed her 1 meter win in the collegiate division and her first place finish in the 3 meter dive-off at the Indiana Dive-off.
Jennifer Sonneborn
Sonneborn was named IU's most improved diver last year, and has continued the trend into her sophomore campaign. She won every board against conference opponents in the fall and took third on one-meter and fourth on three-meter in a tri-meet against Penn State and Michigan State. She placed eighth on one-meter and 11th on three-meter at the Big Ten Championship. Sonneborn took seventh on one-meter and three-meter at NCAA zone diving championships.
Cassandra Cardinell
Cardinell gives the Hoosiers depth in the diving events by providing another high scorer in all events. At NCAA zone diving championships, she finished sixth on one-meter, 13th on three-meter, and fifth on platform. At the Big Ten Championship, she took fifth on one-meter, 12th on three-meter, and ninth on platform. Against Illinois, she took second on one-meter and third on three-meter. Against Northwestern, she placed third on one-meter and second on three-meter. At Purdue she took second.
Jessica Williams
Williams made her mark at the Big Ten Championship. After qualifying sixth on platform, she moved her way up and finished third. Williams thrives on the platform as she took fourth in the event at the conference championship last year. At the NCAA zone championships, she placed 39th on three-meter and seventh on tower.
Mamie Goodson
Goodson took seventh on platform at the Big Ten Championship and made an impact on the springboards during the season. Against Evansville, she won three-meter. On the same event at Purdue, she took third.
At NCAA zone diving championships, Goodson placed 19th on one-meter, 10th on three-meter, and second on tower to qualify for NCAAs. At the championship, she competed on all three boards, finishing 28th on one-meter, 31st on three-meter, and 20th on platform.
Lori Matthys
At the Big Ten Championship, Matthys excelled on platform. After qualifying eighth, she finished the event fifth. Against Northwestern, she took fifth on one-meter and sixth on three-meter.
