Saturday Game Time Changed
Tip-off time for Saturday's women's basketball game between Indiana and Purdue at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis has been moved from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to better accommodate fans.
The Hoosier and Boilermaker men will take the court at 8 p.m. in the second half of the doubleheader, as previously scheduled.
Kathi Bennett Radio Show
New for the 2002-03 season is Indiana head coach Kathi Bennett’s weekly radio show. The third-year head coach can be heard on WHCC Radio 105.1 in Bloomington at 8 p.m. every Sunday.
The show features expert analysis from Coach Bennett of the previous games as well as a look ahead to the next opponent.
Each show highlights a different Hoosier player as well, with Jeremy Gray serving as the host.
Kathi Bennett Television Show
Beginning on December 18 is Head Coach Kathi Bennett’s weekly television show. Join Coach Bennett, the Indiana student-athletes and host Jeremy Gray for an in-depth rundown of the Hoosiers’ games and a look ahead to future contests.
The show will air at 6 p.m. every Thursday throughout the season on Bloomington’s Channel 3.
On The Road Again
The Indiana women's basketball team (4-2 overall) goes back on the road this week to battle North Texas (4-2 overall) at 8 p.m. (EST) on Wednesday at the Super Pit in Denton, Texas.
The game can be heard live on 105.1 WHCC radio, with Jeremy Gray calling all the action.
Series History
Wednesday's contest marks the first-ever meeting between Indiana and North Texas.
Beware The Super Pit
The Lady Eagles enter Wednesday's game having won 15 consecutive games at the Super Pit.
A Little Texas Flavor
Although not in a playing capacity, Indiana guard LeeAnn Stephenson is returning to her home state for Wednesday's contest.
A native of Garland, Texas (the same hometown as North Texas freshman Erika Bobo), Stephenson is coming off surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee that she tore in practice on November 9.
Living Out Of A Suitcase
The Hoosiers are currently in the midst of a span in which five of six games are played away from Assembly Hall. Indiana played two games in the Great Alaska Shootout, then traveled to Tallahassee, Fla., to face Florida State.
After a pit stop at home to face Georgetown, the Hoosiers now head to North Texas and then on to Indianapolis to face rival Purdue at the RCA Dome.
All in all, Indiana is in the middle of a nine-game span in which only two games are played at Assembly Hall.
Saving Her Best For The Hometown Crowd
A native of Bloomington, Indiana, Hoosier freshman guard Cyndi Valentin has done her best work at Assembly Hall.
Valentin averages 9.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game on .452 shooting from the field on the year, but those numbers jump to 12.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game on .565 shooting from the field at home.
Suffocating Around The Arc
The Hoosiers have done an excellent job of defending the three-point shot this year. In Indiana's six games, it has held the opposition to 20-of-85 shooting from long range (.235 pct.)
Arc Unfriendly The Other Way, As Well
Indiana has had difficulty finding consistency from three-point range, as well.
On the year, the Hoosiers are 24-for-87 from three-point land (.276 pct).
Indiana has particularly had trouble from long range in the first half of its last four games, converting on only 4-of-27 treys during that time (.148 pct.)
Working The Boards
Rebounding has been a strength for the Hoosiers. On the year, Indiana has outrebounded its opponents by more than nine boards per game.
The Hoosiers have yet to allow an opponent to outrebound them.
Bench Production
Entering the season, Indiana's depth was looked at as a strength of the team. This has held particularly true in the Hoosiers' last two games.
Against Georgetown, the reserves combined to score 32 points, and against Florida State, 33 of the team's 47 points came from the bench.
Wearing Out The Odometer
The Hoosiers are logging some serious miles during the early part of the 2002-03 campaign. After opening the season with the Hampton Inn/Fazoli's Classic at home, Indiana traveled to Anchorage, Alaska for the Great Alaska Shootout. The Hoosiers then visited Tallahassee, Fla., to battle Florida State before returning home to host Georgetown. The Hoosiers conclude their odyssey when they travel to Denton, Texas to do battle with North Texas on Wednesday.
The Hoosiers traveled 5,662 miles to and from Anchorage, then 1,596 miles to and from Tallahassee, only to travel an additional 1,788 miles to and from Denton. All tolled, Indiana will cover 9,046 miles over a span of 18 days.
Last Time Out
Indiana handed previously-unbeaten Georgetown a 72-65 defeat in its last game.
The Hoosiers got the majority of their production from the backcourt, where guards Jenny DeMuth, Kristen Bodine, Kali Kullberg and Cyndi Valentin combined to score 51 of the team's 72 points.
Kullberg led all scorers with 18 points in the contest and was a perfect 12-for-12 from the free-throw line, while DeMuth added 13 points and six rebounds.
Capitalizing From The Line
The Hoosiers attempted a season-high 40 free-throws against Georgetown, draining 30.
The 40 free-throw attempts marked the second-highest single-game total in school history.
Kullberg From the Line
Freshman guard Kali Kullberg's 12-for-12 effort from the free-throw line against Georgetown was one of the best single-game performances from the free-throw line in school history.
She became only the third player ever at Indiana to have converted on all of her free-throw attempts (min. 12) in a game (Lisa Furlin in 1993 and Jenny DeMuth earlier this year).
Indiana's Freshmen This Year
Indiana is a team that relies heavily on freshmen. There are a total of five true freshmen on the roster. Two of Indiana's freshmen (Brigett Branson and Angela Hawkins) have already been in the starting lineup this year, with Branson becoming the first true freshman to start her Indiana debut since current Detroit Shock player Jill Chapman in 1998.
Freshmen Starting
Indiana head coach Kathi Bennett has started a freshman in every game this year.
Power forward Brigett Branson got the start against Wofford, Ball State and Eastern Kentucky, with center Angela Hawkins getting into the starting lineup for the first time against Nevada and starting every game since.
Kali Kullberg makes her first collegiate start against North Texas.

Angela Hawkins has recorded double-figure rebounding totals in four of Indiana's last five games, including a 10-point, 13-rebound effort off the bench against Eastern Kentucky.
All-Tournament
Both Jenny DeMuth and Kristen Bodine earned All-Tournament team honors at the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.
DeMuth averaged 20.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in the two games in Anchorage, including a 26-point, seven-rebound performance in the championship game.
Bodine averaged 10.5 points and 4.5 assists in the two games, including a 17-point showing against Eastern Kentucky.
Bennett Second-Fastest to 40
Indiana head coach Kathi Bennett picked up her 40th win at the helm of the Hoosier program when Indiana handed Eastern Kentucky a 61-49 defeat on November 25.
Having reached the 40-win mark in her 65th game as the head coach of the Hoosiers, she became the second-fastest to 40 wins in Indiana history.

DeMuth Sets School Record
Sophomore guard Jenny DeMuth set a new school record in the Hoosiers' 103-95 win over Ball State by draining all 14 of her free-throw attempts in the contest.
The prior record was held by Lisa Furlin, who went 12-for-12 in a game against Wisconsin in 1993.
Denise Jackson holds the school record for total free throws made in a game with 15.
More From The Record Books
When the Hoosiers defeated Wofford, 90-34 to open the season, they tied for the third-most lopsided win in school history (56 points).
The margin of victory in that contest was the largest for an Indiana team since the Hoosiers rolled to a 98-42 win over Ball State in 1991.
Even More From The Record Books
This year's Hoosiers have already marked up the record books.
In IU's 103-95 win over Ball State on November 23, the Hoosiers tied the single-game team record for assists with 29, led by Kristen Bodine. Bodine had 12 assists in the contest, a mark which tied her for third place on the school's single-game chart for an individual.
Indiana's 103 points in that contest tied for the second-highest single-game outburst, behind the 110 points the Hoosiers put on the board against Alabama-Birmingham in 1991.
Stephenson Takes Injury Redshirt
Indiana junior guard LeeAnn Stephenson will redshirt the 2002-03 season after tearing her Anterior Cruciate Ligament in practice on Saturday, November 9.
Stephenson, who was competing for strong minutes at the point guard position after transferring from Lincoln Trail (Ill.) Junior College, sustained the same injury that sidelined teammate and fellow point guard Kristen Bodine last season.
Hartman Used To Being All Over The Map
Indiana's travel situation in the early part of the season may seem a bit much, but it is nothing new to senior forward Jill Hartman. Hartman toured Europe this past summer as a member of the Big Ten All-Star team that compiled a perfect 5-0 record.
Home Grown Hoosiers
Since taking over at the helm of the Indiana program prior to the 2000-01 season, Kathi Bennett has made a point of bringing in some of the top talent from the state of Indiana. On the current roster, Bennett has brought in the runner-up for the state's 2001 Miss Basketball award (Jenny DeMuth) and four Indiana All-Stars (DeMuth, Kristen Bodine, Brigett Branson and Cyndi Valentin.)
Valentin Makes Name From Downtown
Freshman Cyndi Valentin made quite an impression in her first go-around in front of the Indiana faithful. The local product from Bloomington South High School won the three-point shooting contest at Midnight Madness in front of over 12,000 fans at Assembly Hall.
Valentin emerged from the women's half of the bracket by edging Kristen Bodine, then defeated men's champion Ryan Tapak in the event final.
What's Next
Following Wednesday's game at North Texas, the Hoosiers take on in-state rival Purdue as part of a women's/men's doubleheader between the Hoosiers and Boilermakers at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. (EST), with the men taking the court at 8 p.m. (EST)
Saturday's contest will not count on either team's Big Ten record, as it is technically a non-conference game.
