Hoosiers Set To Host Missouri in Home Opener

Bloomington, Ind. - Indiana wrestling opens its home dual-meet season Saturday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. at University Gymnasium in Bloomington, Ind. The Hoosiers will play host to the Missouri Tigers in IU's third dual meet of the season and its final competition before a long and much-deserved break over the Christmas holidays.
The Hoosiers head into the meet looking for their first dual meet win of the season after struggling against both Rider and Rutgers on Nov. 30. Missouri enters the meet 2-1 on the season after sweeping a double dual meet over the weekend against Central Missouri State and Princeton. The Tigers boast a No. 20 national ranking in the latest InterMat NCAA Division I poll.

125 - Redshirt freshman Joe Dubuque (Bloomfield, N.J./Glen Ridge), ranked 18th by The Wrestling Mall, enters the match to take on Missouri senior captain and The Wrestling Mall's No. 17-ranked Mark Bader. Dubuque last wrestled at the Northern Iowa Open where he finished fourth after suffering an injury in the quarterfinals.
133 - 2002 NCAA qualifier Greg Schaefer (Evansville, Ind./Mater Dei) looks to return to form against Mizzou's Chris McCormick. Schaefer qualified last season at 125 and moved up to 133 for 2002-03. McCormick enters the match after defeating CMSU's Wade Kilgore by pin in 2:58 last weekend.
141 - Junior Coyte Cooper (Anacortes, Wash./Anacortes), ranked sixth in the nation in the latest InterMat poll, looks to move up in the national rankings against Missouri's No. 15 J.P. Reese. Cooper and Reese have already faced off once this season at the Missouri Open in mid-November. In that meeting, Cooper defeated Reese, 12-1.
149 - The middle weights have been an issue for the Hoosiers throughout the early-goings of the 2002-03 season. At 149, true freshman Matt Cooper (Anacortes, Wash./Bloomington (Ind.) South), younger brother to Coyte, searches for his first dual meet win of the year. He will face Mizzou's No. 6 Jeremy Spates.
157 - Mike Engberg (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) will search for his first dual meet victory as well over Missouri's No. 15 Kenny Burleson. Burleson won both of his matches against Central Missouri State and Princeton and will look to continue his win streak against IU. Engberg, a redshirt freshman, will see his first dual meet action this weekend.
165 - Alex LaPointe (Carol Stream, Ind./Glenbard North) will face off against No. 5 Tyron Woodley. Woodley won both decisions by fall last weekend. LaPointe will look for his first dual meet win of the season.
174 - Mizzou's Matt Turner won both his matches against CMSU and Princeton by major decision. Standing in his way will be IU's Brady Richardson (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln). Richardson will go in search of his first dual meet victory of the season after losing decisions at both Rider and Rutgers.
184 - Indiana's Ty Matthews (Jerome, Idaho/Jerome), an NCAA qualifier in 2000 and 2001 will face off against Scott Barker. Like Matthews, Barker has dropped from 197 to 184 for the season and comes into the match after having his knee scoped early in the season. Barker, a 2002 NCAA All-American, defeated Princeton's No. 3 Greg Parker in his first match of the season. Matthews has wrestled in open competition this season but has yet to wrestle in the dual meet setting.
197 - 2002 NCAA qualifier and current No. 10 Pat DeGain (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) will face off against Mizzou's Dante Stone. Stone moved up from 184 and got his first dual meet win of the season over Princeton's Matt Fisher, 10-3 after being pinned by CMSU's Seth Shippy.
HWT - Missouri boasts No. 16, senior Kevin Herron, at heavyweight while the Hoosiers have true freshman Joel Powers (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) set to wrestle at heavyweight. Powers did not wrestle against Rider and Rutgers and will see his first dual meet action against Mizzou.
