Hoosiers Sit in Third After Day One

Oxford, Ohio- The other half of the Indiana women's swimming team and the women's diving team sits in third place after the first day of competition at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio. Only the 1650 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay were competed the first day.
Indiana sits in third with a score of 148. Kenyon College is in first with 208, followed by Illinois in second with 180.
Indiana's 'A' team placed third in the 800 free relay, while Indiana 'B' came in fifth. The team of sophomore Jinji Fraser and freshmen Nina Thurston, Doherty Colgin and Lauren Torpey had a time of 7:35.18. Illinois 'A' won the event with a time of 7:33.42. Indiana 'B' comprised of junior Jillian Lathrop, sophomore Tammy Kostner and freshmen Lauren Lubus and Sarah Bugden came in with a time of 7:44.13 to place fifth.
Torpey was Indiana's lone representative in the 1650 free and made the most of it, winning with a time of 16:57.67. She outdistanced her second placed competition by nearly seven seconds.
The Miami Invitational will continue tomorrow with prelims at 9:00 a.m. and finals at 6:00 p.m. The events that will be competed tomorrow include the 200 free relay, the 200 butterfly, the 200 free, the 100 breaststroke, the 100 backstroke, the 200 individual medley, three-meter diving, one-meter diving and the 400 medley relay.
