IU Varsity Four Finishes Fourth at Dad Vail Regatta

Philadelphia -Indiana women's rowing showed it competitive desire at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia on Saturday and proved that they are a strong crew looking for victory.
The Varsity Four was on the road in Philadelphia and qualified for the semifinal round on Friday with a victory in its preliminary heat.
The Hoosiers were victorious in their semfinal heat with the sixth-fastest time at the Regatta. The time of 7:17.3 was enough to defeat Northwestern and qualify the Hoosiers for the Grand Final.
The team of junior Stephanie Mast, junior Emily Rumschlag, sophomore Margaret Shelsy, junior Emily Patzer and junior coxswain Becky England finished the Grand Final in fourth place with a time of 7:29.7 just seven one-hundredths behind third place Northwestern.
"The girls did a great job today," said Head Coach Mark Wilson. "They pretty much led the entire semifinal and were victorious, but were just beaten by a couple of faster crews in the final. Overall, it was a solid season for us and we are hoping to come out next year and have the best season in our short history."
IU's Varsity concludes the season with the best-ever point total at the 2002 Big Ten Championship. The Novice heads to the Central Region Qualifier next weekend in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
