Huber-Led Team USA Women Earn Team Silver at 2002 FINA/USA Diving Grand Prix
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.--Indiana Head Diving Coach Dr. Jeff Huber was named as the Head Coach for USA’s Grand Prix team and added another medal to his already overflowing trophy case.
With sophomore Cassandra Cardinell, junior Sara Reiling and senior Erin Quinn participating in the 2002 FINA/USA Diving Grand Prix, Huber had three of his athletes earn silver medals as Team USA’s women earned the prize with 37 overall points. Huber’s influence did not stop there.
1998 IU graduate and 1996 NCAA 10-meter platform champion Kimiko Hirai-Soldati was also coached throughout college by Huber and was also a member of this squad.
Of the U.S. athletes that medalled, only one, 2000 Olympic platform champion, Laura Wilkinson, was the only competitor not to be coached by Huber at one point in her career.
“I am proud of this team and these women,” said Huber. “They are all great divers and it is great for Team USA. Cassie, Sara and Erin all did a great job and really gave Indiana diving a boost. This meet was great for our program.”
Indiana diving has won eight U.S. Diving National Championships and in 2002, the Hoosiers earned their best-ever finishes in the Big Ten and NCAA Championships.
Junior Sara Reiling and senior Erin Quinn continue their outstanding careers as they travel to Seville, Spain for the 2002 FINA Diving World Cup on June 25-29.
