Hoosier Rowers Recognized as National Scholar-Athletes

Bloomington, Ind. -The Indiana women's rowing team had three selected as Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athletes. The three Hoosiers marks the most to be selected for the CRCA honor since the programs inception. IU had two representatives in both 2000 and 2001.
Sophomore Line Espedal added the National Scholar Athlete award to her list of accomplishments for the 2001-02 season. The Lierstranda, Norway native was also an Academic All-Big Ten selection as well as a First-team All-Big Ten pick.
Senior Angela Todd wrapped up her career with another academic accolade. The Biology major from Connersville, Ind. was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice as well as being selected for the National Scholar-Athlete award.
The third and final Hoosier to be named CRCA National Scholar-Athlete was sophomore Margaret Shelsy. The Peru, Mass. native picked up her second academic honor of the year after being selected Academic All-Big Ten early.
The criteria for the CRCA National Scholar-Athlete Award include: meeting eligibility rules as defined by the institution, participating in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, participating in at least 75 percent of the season's races in the varsity boat, the student-athlete's Head Coach must be a member in good standing of the CRCA and the student-athlete must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA through the fall semester of the current season. For the 2002 season, 93 Division I student-athletes received the National Scholar-Athlete Award.
