Hoosiers Recruiting Class Ranked Among Nations Elite

Bloomington, Ind. -Indiana Head Wrestling Coach Duane Goldman and his staff have pulled in a recruiting class that is once again among the nations elite. Indiana's 2002 recruiting class is ranked 16th by InterMat Wrestling.
The Big Ten showed dominance in recruiting placing nine schools among the top-25. The Hoosiers ranked 7th in the Big Ten behind No. 2 Michigan, No. 7 Penn State, No. 8 Iowa, No. 10 Illinois, No. 13 Minnesota, and No. 14 Purdue. No. 19 Michigan State and No. 22 Ohio State rounded out the Big Ten in the top-25.
InterMat's recruiting class rankings are based on the teams ability to sign wrestlers that meet the criteria of team needs, impact wrestlers, and overall quality and quantity.
According to InterMat, IU has a No. 1 special mention wrestler, three honorable mention wrestlers and one top transfer. Intermat also identifies the number of impact wrestlers, "All-American caliber" wrestlers, and top notch wrestlers.
Impact wrestlers are identified as having high probability of being a high All-American in the first two to three years the wrestler is at the university. All-American caliber means that the athlete should be a high All-American before graduating. Finally, top notch means that the wrestler should be a two to four year starter and maybe a low All-American later in his career.
The Hoosiers' class includes one All-American caliber and two top notch athletes, according to InterMat.
