IU Falls to No. 8 Missouri

Columbia, Mo. -- In the first of back-to-back days of dual action, the Indiana wrestling team fell to eighth-ranked Missouri, 29-15. The Hoosiers are now 2-1 on the season, while the Tigers move to 2-0.
"We were pleased with how we wrestled," said Indiana head coach Duane Goldman. "We won three of the seven matches that were wrestled with Andy Rios losing a tough match. We wrestled well and competitively with a lot of heart. It was a good dual meet."
IU opened the meet behind the eight ball as Missouri picked up two victories by forfeit at 133 and 149 due to injuries to sophomore Nick Spatola and redshirt freshman Matt McIntire.
However, Indiana was victorious in four matches, highlighted by senior Coyte Cooper's 13th straight victory. The fifth-ranked wrestler in the nation defeated 11th-ranked J.P. Reese, 11-4 at 141. Cooper's victory makes him a perfect 13-0 overall and 3-0 in dual meets on the season.
Sophomore Joe Dubuque picked up where he left off after his title at last weekend's Northern Iowa Open, knocking off Austin DeVoe, 7-5 in the opening match of the meet. The Bloomfield, N.J., native is now 9-2 this season at 125 pounds, 3-0 in dual meets, and is victorious in his last eight matches.
The Hoosiers closed out the meet with victories in their final two matches. At 197, No. 11 Pat DeGain, another champion at UNI last weekend, beat No. 17 Jeff Foust, 4-1. DeGain improves to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in dual meets this year.
In the final match of the meet, heavyweight Joel Powers picked up his seventh victory of the season by forfeit over Clint Freeman. The sophomore sits at 7-2 this season with a perfect 3-0 mark in dual meets.
Junior Andy Rios nearly pulled out a fifth IU victory, dropping a heartbreaking match to 10th-ranked Matt Pell, 8-7. Rios, ranked No. 14 in the nation at 184, had his six-match winning streak snapped and is now 2-1 in dual meets and 9-2 overall.
Up next, Indiana comes home tomorrow for a quad-meet against Wabash, Eastern Illinois and Gardner-Webb. The meet will begin at noon in University Gym.
